Prof. Anna Geifman, an expert on Russian affairs at the political science department at Bar Illan University, says that the worse thing Russians fear is uncontrolled civil war which could explain the dramatic pace of events that went from tens of thousands of soldiers marching on Moscow to the disbanding of the force in just a few hours. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday night  ordered a brief freeze in construction on a wind turbine project in the Golan Heights that set off a rare clash between Druze residents and police. Netanyahu said  he agreed to a pause on the project during this week's Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday, which is meant to allow time for talks to defuse the crisis.  A statement from Netanyahu's office said he made the decision based on advice from security officials.  Last week, thousands of residents demonstrated against the project, storming a police station, throwing stones and fireworks, setting tires on fire, vandalizing police cars, blocking roads, and even shooting live fire into the air, according to police. Hezbollah fighters have erected an outpost inside Israeli territory on Mount Dov and Israel has sought a diplomatic solution to the development.  But the IDF spokesman has warned that it would take action if the post was not removed.  KAN English asked reserve Lt.-Col. Sarit Zehavi, a former intelligence officer and today CEO and founder of Alma research and education center, how unusual the Hezbollah move was. After the funerals of the four people killed in the shooting close to Eli, the government announced plans  for 1,000 new  housing units for  the grief-stricken community.  "Our response to terror is to strike it with force, and to build our country," a statement from the prime minister’s office  said. The move came despite international condemnation of separate plans to construct more than 4,000 new homes in settlements across Judea and Samaria. Speaking  to KAN's Mark Weiss , Eli mayor Ariel Elmaliah  said he welcomed the decision to build 1,000 new homes but stressed that this is not enough and what is needed is a major IDF operation. Israel Defense Forces are reportedly training 10 battalions to confront Israeli Arabs who could turn into a lethal fifth column and attack the country from within in a future multi-front conflict. Reserve Maj. Gen. Gershon Hacohen served with the IDF for 42 years, as a battalion, brigade, division and corps commander, as head of the military doctrine and training department, and as head of the National Defense Colleges. He told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that this wasn’t a sign that Israel strategic doctrine was changing, but rather the realization of a new threat. Hacohen, who is a senior researcher at the Begin Sadat Center for Strategic Studies, said that if Israel didn’t act with enough might against Hizbullah or Hamas in the future, Israeli Arabs could see this as an opportunity for them. The Sam Spiegel Film School in Jerusalem has launched a special Lab, with the support of Netflix and other partners, that will guide eight selected young Israeli writers through the process. One project will win a Neftlix Series Development Award and all will enjoy a workshop and script development help from visiting producer and screenwriter Joe Peracchio who will also mentor the participants. Soldiers were evacuated under fire from Jenin on Monday morning after an explosive device was detonated against an IDF jeep. Seven soldiers were hurt . At least 5 Palestinians were killed and more than 30 injured in the heavy exchanges of fire. Israel will work with Egypt and the Palestinian Authority to develop the Gaza Marine gas field, across from the Hamas-controlled coastal enclave. The announcement from the Prime Minister’s Office said the decision “emphasized Palestinian economic development and maintaining regional security stability.” Israel said the project will be advanced in cooperation with security agencies, in direct talks with Egypt and coordination with the PA and that Hamas will not receive any of the expected revenues.    Prime Minister Netanyahu and his coalition suffered a political setback Wednesday with the election of Yesh Atid MK Karin Elharar as the Knesset’s only representative to the Judges Selection committee.  Netanyahu found himself facing fierce opposition among his coalition partners and from within his own party, ministers and MKs who were opposed to his plan to accommodate the opposition and to allow for Elharar to be elected alongside one coalition representative. That internal opposition reportedly prompted Netanyahu to back down from his original plan, and  to renege on his promise to the opposition.
