Armenia has urged the European Union  to sanction Azerbaijan for its military operation in the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave and warned that Baku could soon attack Armenia itself unless the West takes firm action. Azerbaijani forces took control of Nagorno-Karabakh, an enclave on its territory populated by ethnic Armenians, in a lightning operation last month, triggering an exodus of more than 100,000 Armenians in less than a week. B'nai B'rith World Center-Jerusalem and the Committee to Recognize the Heroism of Jewish Rescuers During the Holocaust on Sunday  presented  The Jewish Rescuers Citation in honor of Alma Rose, leader of the women’s orchestra at the Auschwitz death camp. Attending the ceremony at  Kibbutz Netzer Sereni, was Sivnne Cohen , the granddaughter of one of the women rescued by Alma Rose, and a researcher and director of a future documentary about her. More than 100,000 people have fled the Nagorno-Karabakh region, Armenia says. It means that that almost the entire population of the ethnic Armenian enclave has left since Azerbaijan seized the region last week. Azerbaijan has said it wants to reintegrate the area and treat its residents as equals, but an Armenian spokesman said this was just a "lie". Nagorno-Karabakh - recognized as part of Azerbaijan - had been run by ethnic Armenians for three decades. The 44th Acko International Fringe Theatre Festival is taking place during the holiday of Sukkot. This year dozens of performances are set to take place in stunning historic locations across the ancient walled, mixed Arab-Jewish  port city. World Jewish population is modestly growing to nearly 16 million, and is approaching the number of world Jewry before the Holocaust. This according to the demographic report published by the Jewish Agency over Rosh Hashana. The main growth is of course in Israel, but the American Jewish community and a few others in the Diaspora are also on the rise. There are thousands of lone soldiers currently serving in the Israel Defense Forces. Lone soldiers have no family in Israel and most of them are new immigrants. Nefesh B’Nefesh, an organization that aids new immigrants from the United States and Canada, has helped lone soldiers for decades and is also expanding it help to lone soldiers from other countries as well. Thirty years of the Oslo accords and it is not dead and continues to shape the reality in the territories.
