World Jewish population is modestly growing to nearly 16 million, and is approaching the number of world Jewry before the Holocaust. This according to the demographic report published by the Jewish Agency over Rosh Hashana. The main growth is of course in Israel, but the American Jewish community and a few others in the Diaspora are also on the rise. Professor (emeritus) Sergio Della Pergola of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem who did the basic research and wrote the report for the Jewish Agency, told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that there were about 25 million people around the world who were eligible for Israeli citizenship under the Law of Return.
