The question over the security  arrangements for the Philadelphi corridor , the 14-kilometer route along the Egypt-Gaza border, has increased tension between Israel and Egypt. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry issued a strongly-worded response to PM Netanyahu’s accusation implying  Egypt had helped smuggle weapons across the Philadelphi Corridor. Cairo  is demanding the IDF’s immediate withdrawal from the Rafah terminal and from the Philadelphi Corridor. A special report by the Jewish Agency’s Global Aliya Center shows that the number of people who have opened aliya files since October 7 has surpassed 30,000. There has been competition and perhaps even feuds between Zionist organizations since before the creation of the state of Israel. But the war has created opportunities for cooperation and mutual responsibility. For over a decade the Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael – Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF) parted with the American-based Jewish National Fund (JNF-USA). But the two have reconciled and agreed to establish a 200 million shekel fund to help rebuild communities in the north and south of Israel. The October 7th war has, in certain parts of society, ushered in a sweeping sense of messianic fervor in the country that Israel’s redemption is close. Wars and disasters have traditionally been fertile grounds for purveyors of apocalyptic prophecies, but the current enthusiasm is spreading beyond the traditional religious groups and also drawing in secular people as well. Amit Varshizky, an historian and essayist, has researched this growing fervor in Israel. Days ahead of the start of the school year, parents who live in northern communities that have not been evacuated are anxious for their children's safety. Since the outbreak of the war on October 7th, the Tzfat-based non-profit organization Sparks to Life has been working to acquire and install  protective shelters for preschools in the community that do not have protection from rocket attacks. While deterrence is difficult to measure and Israel’s was degraded after October 7th, what is certain is that Israeli actions are restrained by a number of factors, including by Israel’s closest ally, the United States. Prof. Eitan Shamir, managing director of the Begin Sadat Center for Strategic Studies at Bar Ilan University, said that Israel currently has “escalation dominance” over its enemies.
