We are joined in the first part of this podcast by John Cassimus, who is attempting to break the world record for the fastest grand slam, and he is doing it all in name of raising money and awareness for the NWTF. Needless to say, we're eager to follow along with how he does in this crazy adventure. Troy and I go into a long discussion afterwards about all the action and hunts that have taken place at Kudzu Bluff in the past days. Believe me, there's no shortage of action; gobbling turkeys, strutting turkeys, turkeys in range with no shot, turkeys almost getting away, my full-blown case of the turkey yips, how we used the topography maps on OnX to save a hunt, and much more. Fewer things in this world are known to make a turkey hunters' skin crawl worse than the thought of missing a turkey. If the thought of that scares you, just imagine missing two, in back-to-back days. In this episode we hear the sad, but funny story of how I managed to do all of this missing. Despite the subpar marksmanship, there are still a few things to learn in what it took to get both of them into range. 

Prescribed fire has been a known management tool for wild turkeys. In this episode, joined by expert on the subject, Marcus Lashley. we take a deep dive into this topic; covering the benefits, timing, and even the breaking of some old beliefs that may not be true. 

To say a lot of action has taken place between this week and the last would be an understatement. Fortunately for us, the action on our hunt with Dave Owens picked up significantly. We were treated to one of the finest spring time spectacles a turkey hunter could ever ask for. Y'all will here the full story of that unfold in this episode. This is about as much live action updates as you can get without doing a full live-streamed podcast. Today is Monday, March 15, 2021; opening day of spring turkey season in MS. This morning Jordan, Dave Owens, and myself headed out and made a morning hunt with plans of recording a podcast about it right after, and thats exactly what we did. We discuss the action that took place, things to learn from that turkey encounter that can apply to most all early-season hunting, and end the conversation with our favorite hunting story from last week's South Florida trip!

I don't think there is a piece of hunting clothing that gets more thought out and loaded-down, than a turkey vest. Every turkey hunter is different. Every turkey hunter seems to have that one thing that they just cannot go into the turkey woods without, but one way or the other, every single one of those vest pockets tends to end up filled. So the question is, what do you carry? We break down all of our turkey gear that we walk into the woods with; calls, binoculars, snacks, decoys, and everything in between. 

One of the most common requested topics that we get is how to manage a property for turkeys. What can you practically do to make a place hold more turkeys, to have better turkey hunting opportunities? I sat down with Brad Farris and Chipper Gibbes who both have had endless amounts of first-hand experience with this very subject. We cover everything from habitat improvement, food plot planting, hunting practices, and much more. This podcast is applicable to the hunter that owns or leases a small piece of ground, all the way to someone who may own thousands of acres. No matter how much property you have or have access to, there are things you can do to make it better for wild turkeys. 

Hunter Farrior and Austin Sills are turkey hunters in every sense of the term, they are Mississippi natives, and they are also the two men behind Spring Legion. This conversation takes us all over the topic board; First turkey memories, what it means to catch the turkey hunting bug, the college years of hunting turkeys, working up the courage to mention one of our favorite public land spots, whether or not using a decoy makes you a lesser hunter, this conversation had it all. Mike Chamberlain is one of the most knowledgeable out there when it comes to the subject of wild turkeys. And after the incredible amount of interest that was created by our 'Corona Gobblers' episode with him last spring, both I and a vast majority of our listeners have been clamoring to have him back on the show. This episode takes a deep dive into the subject of wild turkeys. We take a retrospective look at some of the same topics we covered last years, as well as jump on completely new subject material. It was one of the more interesting and informative conversations I've ever had on this podcast. ENJOY!!

Sitting at the top of the long list of things it takes to consistenly kill turkeys, is the ability to find them. It may seem obvious, but if you're going to successfully hunt them, you need to know where they're at. In this episode Jordan and I focus on strategies that we've been taught, learned, and used over the years to make us better at finding turkeys to hunt. The time to talk turkey hunting is officially here! Jordan and I wanted to kickoff this years turkey episodes in style, and bring y'all some interesting topics right out the gate. We talk about our biggest takeaways from last spring, some of our plans for the upcoming season, and a small glimpse into some upcoming podcast episodes I think y'all will be VERY happy about! 

Troy and I found ourselves sitting inside the Kudzu Bluff camp house watching the rain and discussing the final week of the 2020/2021 deer season. Lessons learned, questions asked, and the little planning we have left to do for these final few days to be spent in tree stands and Double Bulls. We might have even slipped an old turkey story or two in there because we can't help but be thinking about spring already. 

Myself and Jordan are wading through our thoughts of what we can do to find success in these last few remaining days of deer season. We discuss tactics that have worked for us in late season in the past, and also talk about what we have learned from our first year of hunting at Kudzu Bluff. 

Snow is falling at Kudzu Bluff and Troy, Jordan, and myself are trying to catch up on all thats been going on between the Bluffs and Togo Island. We talk about post-rut and late season tactics, the benefits of using climbing stands, Jordan's need for some rifle shooting lessons, and the value of a good set of deer tracking dogs. 

From the hills of Kudzu Bluff to the Mississippi River Bottoms, we were treated to some of most fun rut hunts we've ever had. So much has happened in these past weeks; Brad came to full draw before he even had a chance to climb a tree, Jimmy Grunted in a buck off the ground, and Lake had a hot doe run towards him with 8 bucks chasing her! It was wild! Tune in and hear these in full detail! 

I had the unique opportunity to spend a duck hunting morning with my good friend, B.C Rogers, of Wren & Ivy. B.C is one of the most duck hunting-crazed people that I have ever been around, so I thought would be the perfect chance to have a conversation about it. Subjects discussed include; getting ducks to finish on foggy mornings, the correct way to pronounce "6pointszn", measuring success in a social media-driven society, and much more. 

After the first full-hunting week at Kudzu Bluff we have hit another problem. After an unexpected, positive Covid-19 test, Jordan is stuck at on quarantine until further notice. Leaving the rest of us up at the bluffs one team member down, and Jordan left to his own devices. Other subjects covered include: the signs of rut kicking off at the new camp, Brad Killing his first deer of the year, Lake having a shooter buck get past him, and poor Jimmy rolling into camp after the activity had slowed down. 

The Hunting Public is arguably the most exciting thing happening in the hunting video world right now, and they have recently taken the excitement factor even farther by bow hunting off the ground. This week we are diving in deep to this subject with THP's own, Zach Ferenbaugh, who has made the decision to hunt exclusively from the ground this season. We cover tactics, how he picks areas to setup, the contrast between ground hunting and tree stand hunting, as well as the new challenges that come along with it! 

Brad and I are at the tail end of an archery hunt in Kansas and facing adverse conditions. We talk about deer activity, moving stands, how to deal with locked down bucks, calling tactics, and the best ways to manage time spent in the stand. 

Gary and Charlie of Muscadine Bloodline Traveled down to spend the weekend hunting with Jordan and Lake. Despite not having favorable weather, there were multiple arrows flung and good times had.
