  • Bardstown - Revisited (Part Three: Crystal Rogers)

    17/02/2019 Duración: 01h50min

On July 3rd, 2015, Crystal Rogers was last seen by anyone. She had been planning to spend the evening with her boyfriend, Brooks Houck, and had excitingly told a friend about finally enjoying a child-free night. Crystal, a mother of five, had been dating Brooks for a few years. The two had one child together (an infant son named Eli), and even though their relationship wasn't perfect, it seemed okay from the outside looking in. When Crystal's maroon Chevy Impala was found along the Bluegrass Parkway two days later, Crystal was reporting missing. Her disappearance would spark the third major criminal investigation in as many years, and - to this day - Crystal's whereabouts remain unknown. This is the third part of a new Unresolved series, Bardstown - Revisited. I originally covered Crystal's story back in February of 2016, but have expanded upon it significantly, and have rewritten/rerecording everything.Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.me/ If yo

  • Bardstown - Revisited (Interlude: Tony Satterly)

    13/02/2019 Duración: 08min

Through the first half of 2014, rumors continued to proliferate the region of Bardstown. Many believed that the Bardstown Police Department was involved - somehow - in the death of Officer Jason Ellis. However, it wasn't until March of that year that these conspiracy theorists were given some fodder in the form of a disgraced former-officer. This is a brief interlude in my new Unresolved series, Bardstown - Revisited. I briefly covered Tony's story back in February of 2016, but have gone back and expanded upon, rewritten, and rerecorded everything.Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.me/ If you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a PatronMusic CreditsRest You Sleeping Giant - "Moss"Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

On April 22nd, 2014 a mother and daughter from Bardstown, Kentucky are noticeably absent from work/school. 48-year old Kathy and 16-year old Samantha are rarely even late, so their absence is noted as being very unlike them. When family is called to check in on the two Netherland ladies, it soon becomes apparent that something is wrong. Soon, the region finds itself facing its second high-profile murder case in less than a year. This time, the targets aren't a police officer - but a special education teacher and a high school student. There is no apparent motive, but the crime seems personal...This is the second part of a new Unresolved series, Bardstown - Revisited. In the early morning hours of May 25th, 2013, an officer in the small town of Bardstown, Kentucky was headed home. He was married, with two sons, and had left behind his childhood dreams of becoming a professional baseball player to become a member of law enforcement. But before Officer Ellis could make it home, he was murdered in cold blood - the victim of an ambush, just minutes from his home. To this day, it remains unknown who targeted Jason Ellis... or why. This is the first part of a new Unresolved series, Bardstown - Revisited. • Daniel Shaver

    03/02/2019 Duración: 56min

On the evening of January 18th, 2016, a young man named Daniel Shaver was checked into a hotel room in Mesa, Arizona. He was in-town for business, having left his wife and two daughters behind at their home in Granbury, Texas.Daniel was enjoying life, and invited two guests to his hotel room for some drinks. There, he decided to show them his pellet guns (which he used for his work at a pest removal company). Some guests saw him handling these perceived weapons through his open window, and decided to warn the front desk. This led to a 911 call, and - ultimately - an encounter with police. At the end of the evening, Daniel Shaver would be dead... while the young officer that pulled the trigger found himself facing murder charges. • The Max Headroom Incident

    27/01/2019 Duración: 35min

On November 22nd, 1987, Chicago's channel 9 (WGN) was briefly interrupted. During the Sunday evening news, viewers were greeted by a bizarre masked man, who came upon their screen for a little under 20 seconds before disappearing. Then, just two hours later, this masked weirdo appeared again - this time, on channel 11 (WTTW - the local PBS provider). Even though he was barely intelligible, the man held control of the station's feed for close to 90 seconds. • Lake City Quiet Pills

    13/01/2019 Duración: 58min

On July 17th, 2009, a Reddit user named /u/2-6 announced that their friend - another Reddit user named /u/ReligionOfPeace - had passed away. This announcement was made on Reddit to very little fanfare. Other than serving as a moderator on a creepy subreddit, /u/ReligionOfPeace was known for being an old, gruff weirdo, who claimed to have a storied military history. However, over the coming months, curious web-sleuths began to dig into the history of these two Reddit accounts, and found that they were each linked to a website. This website - named Lake City Quiet Pills - had hidden messages buried in its code, which hinted at the site being much more than meets the eye... 30/12/2018 Duración: 24min

Every morning, a group of retirees - who jokingly referred to themselves as the "Board of Directors" - met up at a Huddle House in North Augusta, South Carolina for coffee. They had done so for nearly two decades. On the morning of November 22nd, 2005, this group of friends separated for the day. They began going their separate routes just after 6:00 AM - right around the same time that an armed gunman attempted to carjack a woman in the parking lot of a nearby Burger King. A small newspaper clipping would report this woman's finding several weeks later, but the woman's account was verified by dozens of other witnesses who all reported the same exact thing. Soon enough, the town of Warminster was besieged by UFO enthusiasts, who hoped to catch a glimpse of the phenomenon that the media had started calling "The Thing." • The Freeway Phantom

    16/12/2018 Duración: 01h13min

Between April and November of 1971, five young black women were abducted and murdered along the Washington Beltway. All had been killed by an enigma nicknamed "The Freeway Phantom," who had become known for leaving the bodies alongside major roadways. The sprawling investigation was headed by the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (MPDC) - who were then joined investigators from the Maryland State Police force, as well as Maryland's Montgomery and Prince George's (PG) counties. The FBI even spearheaded a task force.Investigators believed the Freeway Phantom to be dormant... until he struck again in September of 1972. Ever since, his crimes have continued to haunt the region of Washington DC, and whoever he was, he remains the region's first known serial killer. • New Mexico State Penitentiary Riot (Part Three: The Devil's Butcher Shop)

    02/12/2018 Duración: 54min

On February 3rd, 1980, the riot at the New Mexico State Pen carried on into its second full day. Negotiations continued, but with a handful of prison guards still captive, the inmates were holding most of the leverage.Eventually, a peace would be brokered and order would be restored to the penitentiary. The facility itself, though, was in total disarray, and the expensive cleanup effort that followed would prove costly (not only financially, but emotionally). In the months and years that followed, the story would continue to plague the region. After-effects of the riot would be felt for years to come, and many still question certain aspects of it... Part three of three Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron Music CreditsGraham Bole - "Lurking"Blue Dot Sessions - "Arbinac"Percival Pembroke - "Op. 10 Sigma Variations (Excerpt)"ROZKOL - "If Th

  • New Mexico State Penitentiary Riot (Part Two: The Hate Factory)

    28/11/2018 Duración: 46min

In the early morning hours of February 2nd, 1980, a dozen inmates at New Mexico's State Penitentiary took four prison guards hostage. Within an hour, more than ten guards would be taken captive, and hundreds of inmates were freed from their cells. The facility, which had been made aware of the dangers in the months preceding the riot, had done little to prepare for it. The rioting inmates made easy work of the lax security protocols meant to keep them at-bay, and - within hours - had free rein of the entire prison. What would follow would be hours of bloodshed... the likes of which were nearly-unparalleled in American history. As prison officials and law enforcement struggled to gain control of the situation, they quickly learned that they had underestimated the unadulterated rage that had been festering for years... Part two of three Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/

  • New Mexico State Penitentiary Riot (Part One: Powder Keg)

    25/11/2018 Duración: 47min

Throughout the 20th century, the New Mexico State Penitentiary earned a reputation of being, ironically, a lawless place - where violent and non-violent prisoners were forced to co-exist in cramped and deplorable conditions.Violence was constant, and certain cell blocks were allowed to run rampant over others. To make matters even worse, the prison's revolving door of wardens through the 1970's kept implementing changes, but just ended up creating vacuums... which were only ever filled with apathy and disorder. This eventually reached a head in the final days of 1979, when rumors of a vicious uprising began spreading through the facility. Prison officials thought nothing of it at the time, but in the early morning hours of February 2nd, 1980... the powder keg could no longer be contained.Part one of three Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Pat

  • Sunset Limited Derailment

    11/11/2018 Duración: 01h43s

In the early morning hours of October 9th, 1995, Amtrak's Sunset Limited - which regularly traveled between coasts - slipped off of the tracks in rural Arizona. As investigators began looking into the cause of this wreck, they discovered that this was no accident. A group (or an individual masquerading as a group) had conspired to make this derailment happen, leaving four copies of a rambling & poetic "manifesto" at the crime scene. All four letters were signed with the same moniker: "Sons of the Gestapo" (or, abbreviated, "S.O.G."). Despite an investigation that has spanned more than two decades, looked into extremist groups across North America, and offered up a $310,000 reward, the train's saboteurs have never been identified. Written, hosted, and produced by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast and others, consider heading to patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a PatronThis episode features a promo for my friends Shea and Erin, who host th
