Bridging The Gap

We all want to be liked by those around us, and some of us will say and do just about anything to make that happen.  But if you’re a Christian, and living like one, you will be hated. Jesus told us that, but He also told us that if we abide in Him, then all the world’s hate cannot harm us! 

Today on Bridging the Gap, we study John’s gospel. We’re in chapter fifteen, where we’re urged by the Lord to abide in God’s love. The world is going to be against you, the moment you declare your allegiance to Christ.

We’re told in the Bible that what a man desires is unfailing love.  Many today are searching for unfailing love, but are looking in all the wrong places for it.  Today, Lloyd points out a few distinct aspects of God’s love -  which is certainly unfailing.  The first characteristic is that it originates with Him.  So, join us in John chapter fifteen, as we discover how to abide in God’s love.

We’re in the midst of a verse by verse study through John’s gospel, and we’ve landed in chapter fifteen today. In this chapter, Jesus explains to His apostles the nature of His relationship with the Father and, in doing so, reveals the ideal relationship between the Father and us. We are the branches and Jesus is the true vine. Just exactly what does that mean, and how can we pout those words into action in our lives?

 If you have young children, I’m sure you’re amazed at how quickly they grow. You might also do what many parents do - keep track of their growth with a mark on a wall. That’s a good gauge of physical growth, but what about spiritual growth? Join us now in John chapter fifteen as we discover the dynamics of spiritual growth, as we abide in Jesus.

Today we continue our series through the gospel of John with a final study in chapter fourteen. Jesus has some very powerful and thought-provoking words to share with His disciples as He prepares for His arrest and crucifixion. Jesus knew what awaited Him. He knew the pain, humiliation and violence that were just a few hours away. Yet, His concern was for His friends - and that includes you and me.

Today on Bridging the Gap, we continue our study of the gospel of John by once again turning to chapter fourteen. In the final ten verses of this great chapter, we read some of the greatest words spoken by the Lord.

Today, pastor Lloyd Pulley shares the second half of a message from Colossians chapter one, titled “The Plan of The Cross”,  and has us consider a situation most of us have faced at one time or another - feeling like our faith in Christ is not what it used to be. That special experience of being born again is something we never forget, but as we move along in life, sometimes that excitement kid of dwindles, doesn’t it? Pastor Lloyd is going to urge us today to continue in our faith, and he’ll use the words of Paul in Colossians chapter one, verses nineteen through twenty-three.

It’s great to have you with us today, as we bring you a special message for Easter, from Colossians chapter one, verses nineteen through twenty-three. These verses have to do with Jesus Christ and His role as reconciler. Who did He reconcile? Well, sin has separated man from God. God simply cannot have anything to do with sin. He hates it. So Jesus came to earth and died on a cross to reconcile us with God.

Jesus said it Himself, He came to earth not be served, but to serve. And if it weren’t for His sacrificial death - an act of service to His Father, we would be destined for hell. As we again look at John fourteen today, we will see that despite the fact that Jesus was about to be put to death, He continues to serve and consort His disciples.

Before we even take our requests to God, we need to ask the important question, “Will this bring glory to God?”  If the answer is no, then we can save our breath, and refocus our prayer. Today on Bridging the Gap, we’re going to learn an important truth about Jesus Christ. He told his disciples that when they see Him, they’re seeing their Heavenly Father! Can you imagine the thoughts that must have crossed their minds? Pastor Lloyd Pulley’s study today is based on John fourteen.

Today pastor Lloyd continues his series in the gospel of John, by taking us to one of the greatest and most significant chapters in God’s word - John fourteen.  A troubled heart - it’s something that afflicts all of us at one time or another. The disciples were troubled as well, when they realized their teacher and friend was about to leave them. Turn to John chapter fourteen and let’s draw some comfort from the words of Jesus.

Today, pastor Lloyd Pulley will continue in chapter thirteen, where John gives his account of the foretelling of Peter’s denial of Christ.  Perhaps, we’re tempted to thumb our nose at Peter, and say “how could he”?.  But let’s consider how many times we have denied Christ in our lives in ways maybe we’ve never even thought about.

Oftentimes we associate Peter with his denial of Christ, and that’s perhaps a little unfair.  While that certainly was a low point in Peter’s walk with Christ, he certainly had many successes by God’s grace. Let’s join pastor Lloyd Pulley in John thirteen, and see what we can learn from verses thirty-one through thirty-eight.

We’ll see how greatness is built on the foundation of servanthood today on Bridging the Gap as pastor Lloyd Pulley resumes his study of John’s Gospel.  We meet up with him now in John chapter thirteen.

We’re about to sit in on an argument between the disciples over the question, “Who’s going to be the greatest in the kingdom of God?”  It’s interesting how Jesus would respond, and through it all we discover a valuable lesson on what’s really important in life.  Pastor Lloyd Pulley has us turn to the thirteenth chapter of John today where we see Jesus lay down a beautiful example of what a servant should look like. 

Today on Bridging the Gap, pastor Lloyd Pulley will show us that even after Jesus had performed many signs, there were still those who wouldn’t believe. And it just goes to show you that even when some people see irrefutable proof that Jesus is indeed who He says He is, they still reject Him. We get the details in John chapter twelve. 

If you knew you only had a few hours to live, what would you do for those last precious moments? A Lot of people would probably enjoy a big meal, or travel or spend time with family. When Jesus Christ knew that the time had come for Him to be arrested and crucified, what did He do?  One of the best ways to understand the heart of Jesus is to look at the things He did in the last hours of His life.

Lloyd is currently leading us through an exciting and relevant study in the Gospel of John. I say relevant because that’s one of the most wonderful things about studying God’s word.... Though it was written centuries ago, the lessons contained here are important and practical for everyone today as well.
