Watch The Theron: The Charlize Theron Podcast

The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be a bit hazy, but what's perfectly clear is that Charlize Theron was in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness! Dropped into a credits scene, Charlize takes the role of Clea, who seems to know the titular Doctor Strange very well. Who is she? What role could she play? Why did Marvel use her now? We return to Watch The Theron for a quick episode to catch up on her role in the MCU and how she may be used down the road. We also discuss Charlize's recent history (and near future?) of acting exclusively in established franchises, how her entrance into the MCU is new ground for us, and whether Marvel would have been better served to have saved her casting for the seemingly inevitable reboot of the universe in the next few years. 

Charlize is back! Well, she never left, but Watch The Theron is back for her newest movie: The School for Good and Evil, which is a very, very long movie. It's not made for our demographic, but Charlize is having fun (hooray!), so we try to have some fun, too. We talk about how it feels like The School for Good and Evil is a TV series condensed down to movie length, discuss the complicated adaptation backstory, and admire how good this movie looks and how good the effects are. We also wonder... Will there be sequels? Where did this movie come from? Why aren't the nepo babies of the fairy tale world more defined/dressed? We compare this movie to Snow White and the Huntsman, debate whether or not the title is a spoiler, and preview upcoming episodes of Watch The Theron -- covering both movies we've missed and Charlize's upcoming projects (which are, weirdly, all sequels). Joey explains a Netflix disc "scam." Mike stereotypes witches' names.

The Huntsman: Winter's War marks Charlize Theron's first sequel, and also begs one question: Why? Why this movie? Why this franchise? Though this movie was far less successful at the box office (and faced much harsher reviews from critics), it's probably not that far off from the first one in terms of quality or overall production value. However, with fewer than ten Charlize Theron movies left, it's a bit of a disappointment when we get to a movie where she misses an eighty minute chunk in the middle. Email us: watch@cageclub.me

We should have known that the journey across the wasteland of Charlize Theron's filmography wouldn't be easy, but at long last we've made it to Valhalla: Mad Max: Fury Road. (It turns out that all we needed to get through was a little guzzoline.) It's 2015. Fresh off the success of Gone Girl, another Gillian Flynn adaptation, Dark Places, is released. That's where the similarities end. After David Fincher's adaptation of Gone Girl grossed more than $360 million worldwide in theaters, Dark Places was relegated straight to VOD and was met by "generally unfavorable reviews." Most of Snow White and the Huntsman is forgettable, but that doesn't make any of Charlize Theron's gleefully campy acting any less wonderful. Snow White and the Huntsman tries to re-tell the classic tale of Snow White in new ways. Does it do an effective job? Do we really need the apple and dwarfs when nothing else feels the same?
