Despite rising inflation and the high cost of living, the Israeli public is expected to spend 7.8 billion shekels on food for Passover holiday, of which 250,000 tons valued at 1.9 billion shekels is expected to go to waste. At the same time, with the increased cost of living, more and more families struggle to make ends meet at the end of the month, and this holiday, the gap will grow even wider. Malka Leifer has been found guilty of rape, indecent assault and sexual penetration of a minor, in the County Court of Victoria, Australia. A jury found Leifer guilty of 18 of the 29 counts of sexual abuse charges against two sisters that she was on trial for but cleared her of all charges relating to a third sister. In honor of the Pessah Passover holiday which is celebrated this week , the Western Wall Heritage Foundation has removed prayer notes that had been placed between the Western Wall stones over the past six months.  The removal is carried out in accordance with halachic guidelines, using gloves and disposable wooden utensils, with the goal of making room for new notes from worshippers and tourists who are expected to arrive in Jerusalem in the coming months. Former US President Donald Trump is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday afternoon after an investigation into payments made during his 2016 presidential campaign to silence claims of an extramarital sexual encounter. The Histadrut  trade union federation has announced a general strike  in wake of the dismissal of the defense minister . Histadrut Chair Arnon Bar-David called on the prime minister to stop the judicial overhaul legislation before it was too late.    The Israel Medical Association also announced a strike of the healthcare system. Hospitals are operating in a reduced format. Ben Gurion Airport was closed to departures and  crowds of passengers are at the departure lounge.   About 74,000 passengers had been scheduled to go through the airport today, half of them departures.    Ashdod Port is also on strike. Political officials have described the series of clashes over the past few days that spurred international criticism of Israel as a “crisis atmosphere.” The worst clash occurred vis-à-vis the Biden administration. The shekel again weakened Monday against the dollar and against the euro. A new study by the Taub Center reveals a worrying trend: in 2020, Israel was ranked number one in the world in per capita consumption of opioid pain narcotics – overtaking the United States where the phenomena has reached epidemic proportions. The researchers have urged consideration of immediate actions to reduce consumption and over-subscription.
