The 31st annual Jerusalem Puppet Festival opens tonight. This year’s festival will be on the theme of the future. It opens at the Liberty Bell park and includes 35 local and international productions. During the three-day Operation Breaking Dawn against the Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip, access to the periphery was blocked and precautions were made to keep soldiers, civilians and material out of the line of sight and be targeted by the terrorists.The KKL, or Jewish National Fund has embarked on a project to plant security forests along the frontier to not only block the sight of the enemy but also to provide shade and even protection to the people there. A new study by the Israel Defense Forces has found that the average weight of new recruits joining the army today is a whopping 10 kilos heavier than a generation ago. But the problem of overweight is spreading in Israel, particularly among children who exercise less and eat more than before. Rakefet Arieli , a sports and clinical sports dietitian and advisor to the school sport association in Israel, said that programs are being developed to make children more physically active. The 35th annual three-day international Klezmer Festival has opened this week in the mystical city of Tzfat in the Galilee. Large crowds are expected to crowd the stages and alleyways this year, the first since the coronavirus pandemic struck, and because entry is free of charge. Scores of performers as well as street artists are at moment spreading that traditionally Jewish Klezmer music across Tzfat. A new survey by the Israel Democracy Institute shows that Israeli voters are most concerned about the economy and high cost of living and are putting it as their number one priority for voters in the upcoming national elections. The survey published today also found that a party’s leader has more influence on a vote than the list of candidates for the Knesset. The IDF arrest of the Islamic Jihad's West Bank leader earlier this week prompted the high security alert in Israel's south amid concerns of retaliatory rocket or anti-tank fire. The Gaza periphery area has effectively been in a lockdown for the past three days --  as major roads in the region that are exposed to the strip were closed, train service halted; public bus routes altered and residents of Gaza border communities instructed to remain near their homes or protected spaces.  According to (Ret.) Major General Yaakov Amidror, a former national security advisor and head of research in IDF intelligence, the limitations are well-calculated. Amidror, who is currently a senior fellow at the Jerusalem Institute for Strategic Studies, and a Distinguished Fellow at JINSA, the Jewish Institute for National Security of America in Washington,  DC, spoke about the developments with KAN reporter Naomi Segal. American-born Rabbi David Fine has tossed his hat into the political ring and announced this week he will run for the Religious Zionist party primaries. Fine, who last year founded the Anglo Vision movement for uniting Anglos into a political force, told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that he wishes to be the voice for the Anglo-Saxon community in the Knesset and the Religious Zionist movement was the ideal home for that. While voters tend to believe their decision on whom to vote for is an informed, rational and independent one, an analysis of demographic characteristics of voters has found they tend to cleave toward certain parties based on their ethnic and religious identity, along with socioeconomic standing. This fact precludes much shifting between political camps, contributing to the current political stalemate.  The analysis, conducted by Dr. Or Anabi, a researcher at the Israel Democracy Institute, examined different polls conducted in the past year by the Viterbi Family Center for Public Opinion and Policy Research at the Israel Democracy Institute.
