On the day after Boxing Day Peter Jones of Kajuen Ryu has kindly booked me to teach for his excellent club for two hours. The subject will be stand-up guards, their strengths and weaknesses. I am particularly looking forward to teaching this ever evolving topic and hoping to put to bed a few myths that can circulate in our martial arts circles. Now, Peter has very kindly offered to open what was a workshop specifically for his club to the greater community. He is going to stream us via the magic of Zoom across the world. So for the paltry sum of £10 and two hours out of your holiday time, you can join in with us in the comfort of your own home. • Coal for Jersey Joe (Part 1) (Christmas Episode)

    14/12/2021 Duración: 43min

In these special Christmas and New Year episodes I look at the Jersey Joe Walcott story. He is often considered one the most underrated heavyweight boxers in history. This is not another biography but a look into the background and conditions that made Walcott's fight to succeed so remarkable. We begin in December 1944 when the great fighter has given up on his dreams and look back at what created this situation. Shownotes/links: Clubb Chimera WebsiteClubb Chimera Facebook PageClubb Chimera TwitterClubb Chimera YouTubeClubb Chimera InstagramJamie Clubb BooksTribute to the Man Who Didn't Quit Jersey Joe Walcott: A Boxing BiographyBoxing Biographies: Jersey Joe WalcottClose Encounters with the Gloves OffThe RingEast Side BoxingWho i Music for the Outro:  "Titans" by Cold CinemaLink: https://bit.ly/3HjGhpVSupport the show Support the show Buy "When Parents Aren't Around" Audiobook Clubb Chimera Website Clubb Chimera Martial Arts Facebook Group Clubb Chimera Facebook Page Clubb Chime

  • Martial Movie Massacre: The Final Chapter

    08/12/2021 Duración: 48min

This episode marks the conclusion of our annual martial movie massacre season. It might be the end of this particular tradition, depending on how the programming goes for next season and not to mention your all-important feedback. CCMA will be making some major steps forward with our provision of services in the New Year. I am still not entire sure what next year’s podcast theme will be, so again please let me know via the usual channels. From as long as I can remember, a proposed final instalment to a series was always an exciting prospect. Very few good movies, TV shows or other forms of media live up to expectations of their finale sequel or episode. Some of the best examples I think take the form of accidents. However, I am confident that you will enjoy the last Martial Movie Massacre. This show has some great guests, such as Iain Abernethy, Leigh Simms, Les Bubka, Chris Hanson and a piece written especially for the show by the great Gretchen Carlson.  There is much rule breaking in the show – in fact it

  • Martial Movie Massacre X (part one)

    27/11/2021 Duración: 43min

Martial Movie Massacre returns for the first part of its 10th episode anniversary. For three years we have presented a tradition of looking at the dramatic fiction medium - movies and sometimes TV - to discuss what we like and dislike about its martial art content. Having spent two years and six episodes going through tropes and cliches in this subgenre, this year I have asked several of my guests to offer their recommendations on not only underrated martial arts movies but also non-martial arts movies that martial artists should watch. Now, it is my turn. Here are my first five selection of 10 movies that meet this criteria. Clubb Chimera WebsiteClubb Chimera Facebook PageClubb Chimera TwitterClubb Chimera YouTubeClubb Chimera InstagramJamie Clubb BooksMusicTecknoAxe - "Hero's Redemption"Infraction - Sport Music (No Copyright Music) Video Link: https://youtu.be/iEJ4yP9k1JIMob Battle by Silent Partner from YouTube Audio Library · http://bit.ly/32TUZyy Muay Thai — Woodwind Instrument Music for T

  • Season of the Witch Chapter Three (Halloween Episode)

    29/10/2021 Duración: 29min

Chapter Three concludes this year's Halloween show with a discussion on the impact created by irrational fears and the real problems at the root of those individuals who commit crimes in the name of antagonistic dieties. We then discuss how fear of witches, teenage violence and the development of occult magical practices can provide us with lessons in short-term self-protection, long-term self-protection and martial arts history.Clubb Chimera WebsiteClubb Chimera Facebook PageClubb Chimera TwitterClubb Chimera YouTubeClubb Chimera InstagramJamie Clubb BooksMusic "Dark Spirits" by Our Music Box Music for the Outro:  "Titans" by Cold CinemaLink: https://bit.ly/3HjGhpVSupport the show Support the show Buy "When Parents Aren't Around" Audiobook Clubb Chimera Website Clubb Chimera Martial Arts Facebook Group Clubb Chimera Facebook Page Clubb Chimera Twitter Clubb Chimera YouTube Clubb Chimera Instagram Jamie Clubb Books

  • Season of the Witch Chapter Two (Halloween Episode)

    27/10/2021 Duración: 31min

Chapter Two of our annual Halloween show continues on from the tragic teenage crime of the previous episode and looks further back into history.  Here we go through the philosophical and counter-cultural roots for the hysteria that became the Satanic Panic. Martial arts historians might start to note interesting parallels for the origin of invented traditions whilst self-protection teachers and students will see how bad assumptions can be dangerous in the hands of the learned. Clubb Chimera WebsiteClubb Chimera Facebook PageClubb Chimera TwitterClubb Chimera YouTubeClubb Chimera InstagramJamie Clubb BooksMusic "Dark Spirits" by Our Music Box Music for the Outro:  "Titans" by Cold CinemaLink: https://bit.ly/3HjGhpVSupport the show Support the show Buy "When Parents Aren't Around" Audiobook Clubb Chimera Website Clubb Chimera Martial Arts Facebook Group Clubb Chimera Facebook Page Clubb Chimera Twitter Clubb Chimera YouTube Clubb Chimera Instagram Jamie Clubb Books

  • Season of the Witch Chapter One (Halloween Episode)

    26/10/2021 Duración: 28min

Year four of our Halloween tradition takes a look at lessons to be learned from crimes associated with the occult and crimes caused by fear of the occult. There is much to unpack in relation to both self-protection and martial arts. Chapter One looks at the bored and wayward teenager Ricky Kasso from Northport, Long Island, who became addicted to drugs, praised Satan and committed murder. Shownotes/links: Clubb Chimera WebsiteClubb Chimera Facebook PageClubb Chimera TwitterClubb Chimera YouTubeClubb Chimera InstagramJamie Clubb BooksMusic "Dark Spirits" by Our Music Box Music for the Outro:  "Titans" by Cold CinemaLink: https://bit.ly/3HjGhpVSupport the show Support the show Buy "When Parents Aren't Around" Audiobook Clubb Chimera Website Clubb Chimera Martial Arts Facebook Group Clubb Chimera Facebook Page Clubb Chimera Twitter Clubb Chimera YouTube Clubb Chimera Instagram Jamie Clubb Books

  • Martial Movie Massacre VIII: The Beginning

    17/08/2021 Duración: 59min

The annual Martial Movie Massacre event continues with this spotlight on 1980s US martial arts movies, the films that shaped the landscape for what I watched during my early training days.  Using 1988 as our spotlight year and a stand alone comic-strip, we will look into the major changes that took place in the low budget world of US martial arts movies and the four icons that shaped the following decade. The 1970s martial arts movie scene had been largely dominated by the Kung Fu genre, mainly imported from Hong Kong. Enter the Dragon, released in 1973, was the first Hollywood Asian martial arts movie and should have paved the way, but instead a huge void was left by the tragic death of Bruce Lee. It was only in the late '70s that some independent film-makers in the west believed they could change the face of western action movies by infusing them with a richer variety of fight choreography.  Shownotes/links: Clubb Chimera WebsiteClubb Chimera Facebook PageClubb Chimera TwitterClubb Chimera YouTubeClubb
