Episodios

  • 038 - The Girl Who Made the Stars (ST2x05) (with Barm)

    24/12/2019 Duración: 01h05min

It’s Round 2 of Jack and Barm’s animated discussion about cartoons, and this time they’re tackling one of the most puzzling Short Treks yet:  The Girl Who Made the Stars!  MICHAEL BURNHAM MAKES HER SHORT TREKS DEBUT.  It’s the first ever CGI animated Trek, and with it comes all the baggage that carries.  The SoCal Mall Boys dish on creepy Toy Story 1-esque CGI characters, annoying “kid-speak”, cool Abyss inspired aliens, how long anatomically modern humans have existed, creation myths, the untapped potential of CGI animation, how awesome Sarek is, and ultimately uncover the “Reverse Goku Situation.”  It’s an episode as out of this world as a little Michael Burnham’s bed.

  • 037 - Ephraim and Dot (ST2x04) (with Barm)

    24/12/2019 Duración: 01h28min

Barm is back to talk with Jack about the first animated Star Trek production in forty-five years!  Join them as they dive right back into the mycelial network to talk tardigrades, robots, Kirk Thatcher, Khan, Engineering, Chris D’Elia, WALL-E, Rogue One, classic nutty moments from the original series, old cartoons, sloppy continuity errors and so much more.  Plus, it’s a total Michael Giacchino love-fest.  This tardigrade egg is hatching a winner!

  • 036 - Ask Not (ST2x03) (with Barm and Kregg Castillo)

    18/12/2019 Duración: 02h35min

Short Treks Season 2 continues, and nearly two months later, Jack’s Silly Little Friendly Neighborhood Star Trek Discovery and Short Treks Podcast is on the scene! That’s right, Jack is joined by Barm and Kregg Castillo, his most frequent guests of this venerable modern Trek podcast to talk Pike in more Sidhu-able fashion than usual!  Baby Yoda, Tholians, and BDSM play, oh my!  The boys also take a moderate dive into The Mandalorian, while the internet still cares about it.  WE care, too.  And when you hear what we have to say about Chingy, Starbases, and Bolian hair…. so will you.

  • 035 - The Trouble With Edward (ST2x02) (with Geoff Clarke)

    13/12/2019 Duración: 02h37min

Short Treks Season 2 continues, and nearly two months later, Jack’s Silly Little Friendly Neighborhood Star Trek Discovery and Short Treks Podcast is on the scene! Or should we say, The ApeCast is on the scene? That’s right, Jack is joined by his ApeCast cohost of the venerable POTA podcast to talk Tribbles in a bit Archer a fashion than usual!  Zelda and Cereals and video games, oh my!  The boys also take a shallow dive into the Rise of Skywalker, long after the internet has stopped caring about it.  But WE care.  And when you hear what we have to say about Trill officers, Klingons, and Tribble hair…. so will you.

  • 034 - Q&A (ST: 2x01) (with Sam Stovold and Kevin Young)

    28/11/2019 Duración: 02h27min

Short Treks Season 2 Is upon us, and nearly two months later, Jack’s Silly Little Friendly Neighborhood Star Trek Discovery and Short Treks Podcast is on the scene! Or should we say, Reopening the Wormhole is on the scene? That’s right, Jack is joined by Sam Stovold and Kevin Young of the venerable DS9 podcast to talk Spock in the Number One way with a session of Q&A!  Upjohns and Unamatrices and horses, oh my!  The boys also take a deep dive into the Disco Season 3 trailer and the second Picard trailer, long after the internet has stopped caring about them.  But WE care.  And when you hear what we have to say about Trill Pools, Lurians, and Michael Burnham and Data’s hair…. so will you.

  • BONUS - PROJECT SEAN (with Sean Davis and Sam Stovold)

    06/11/2019 Duración: 03h52min

(FANS ONLY)  REVELATIONS!  Shocking as it may be, long before Jack’s Silly Little Silly Friendly Neighborhood Star Trek Discovery Podcast, your beloved Jack was a mere co-host of other shows.  In this very special and long and boring peek behind the curtain, Jack has taken something he had inadvertently recorded after an RTW session and turned it into gold.  SEAN DAVIS (After The Credits)  makes his debut on the show, in a way he never dreamed of nor wanted.  Listen to Jack, Sean and friend of the show and brother of Jack, Sam (until he falls asleep) talk inside baseball about the podcasting game, love each other’s shows, blab about dumb shit, solve all the problems in Disco and Trek fandom (and a divided America)  and THEN, dive deep into how fucking GREAT the finales of both LOST and Battlestar Galactica and HOW WRONG YOU ARE TO HATE THEM.  Unfortunately, due to the massive popularity of the show, we are no longer ad free.  But lord knows what these commercials are trying to sell…  FYI, this episode is for

  • DISCO BONUS #11 - The Enterprise War. by John Jackson Miller (with Barm)

    04/10/2019 Duración: 03h17s

Jack and his best buddy Barm talk about The Enterprise War, by John Jackson Miller, a very fun book starring Captain Pike, Spock, and a pirate Lurian (like Morn from DS9) in a powered exoskeleton.  They’re also diving back into the mailbag, and doing a deep dive and giving you their room-temperature takes on what was at the time the hottest explosion of Star Trek news!  The Picard Trailer, Short Treks, Disco Season 3, and Lower Decks are discussed.  I can say, without any hyperbole, that is the greatest thing ever recorded.

  • BONUS - Electric Light Orchestra: Discovery (with Kevin Young)

    14/08/2019 Duración: 02h17min

A drunken Jack comes back home after a long night to talk with a very patient Kevin about Discovery.  That’s right, it’s Jack’s Silly Little Friendly Neighborhood Electric Light Orchestra: Discovery Podcast!  1979 ELO album Discovery is what the boys are talking here, as Jack revisits the album for the first time in over a decade, and Jack DISCOVERS it for the first time!  Kevin also helps Jack to understand what music is and how it works, and endeavors to keep the show listenable, as they take a song=by-song look at the album and DISCOVERY DISCOVERY is VERY DISCO.

  • BONUS - Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Freak Book (6x05) (with Lauren Petronaci)

    18/07/2019 Duración: 02h38min

You Disco listeners asked for it, you got it! That’s right, it’s the first, best, destiny of any Star Trek Disco podcast:  The long-awaited Curb Your Enthusiasm/Godzilla: King of the Monsters episode you slobbering fanboys CRAVE!  Curbspert Lauren Petronaci is back again to talk about one of Larry David’s craziest adventures.  Ted Danson!  Mary Steenburgen!  Jeff Garlin!  MacEnroe!  Mothra!  I feel pretty confident in my assertion that this is the only Star Trek: Discovery podcast that brings you a Curb Your Enthusiasm/Godzilla: King of the Monsters episode out there.  Plus, one HELL of a mailbag and Game of Thrones talk!  Remember when people cared about that?  Pretty, prettttttaaaay good.  Okay.

  • BONUS - Beverly Hills Ninja (Commentary) (with Barm)

    12/06/2019 Duración: 02h33min

Beverly. Hills. NINJA.  Has another film ever risen above Dennis Dugan and Chris Farley’s nuanced and sensitive portrayal of intercultural tensions between 1990s American coastal elites and that of ancient Japanese ninjas?  No.  There hasn’t.  This is the best one.  To celebrate this masterpiece, Barm has once again joined forces with Jack for another movie commentary to commemorate The Summer of Stuff That’s Not Star Trek, Except When It Is, by talking over BEVERLY HILLS NINJA, Chris Farley’s magnum opus.  THIS is what Star Trek: Discovery podcasts are all about.  Hi-YA!

  • BONUS - Galaxy Quest (Commentary) (with Barm)

    04/06/2019 Duración: 02h04min

Well, folks, Disco Season Two is over, and we know ALL about the Red Angel and what each BURST was. I guess that about wraps it up for the podcast for the year, huh? NOPE! It’s the beginning of The Summer of Stuff That’s Not Star Trek, Except When It Is. And what better way to kick it off than with something that’s almost, but not QUITE Star Trek? That’s right, it’s finally time for the now nearly legendary (among like, five people) lost episode of JSLFNSTDP from the vault: the Galaxy Quest Commentary Track, with none other than Barm, making his audio commentary debut. He never gave up, and never surrendered. Can the same be said for you, the listener? There’s only one way to find out!

This week, on JSLFNSTDP: WHEN STOVOLDS COLLIDE! For the first time ever, two Disco watching brothers record a podcast all by themselves, and Such Sweet Sorrow it is, for they are here to talk about the endless succession of heartfelt speeches and tearful goodbyes that is Season 2’s penultimate episode.  But they are also here to figure out just what exactly Starfleet’s OTHER general orders are, reminisce on 90’s Venom and Carnage video games, go HAM on their season 3 theories, share each other’s impressions of the revamped Enterprise, discover their Po problems, and fantasize about sexy mirror universe sex.  Make sure YOUR computer has enough RAM to process all this brotherly love!

  • 027 - Through the Valley of Shadows (2x12) (with Barm and Kevin Young)

    10/05/2019 Duración: 02h28min

It’s time for another rip-roaring episode of Jack’s Silly weeks after the fact, which means everyone’s still moaning about Control being the Borg!  To assist in said moaning, Jack has enlisted the help of two CLASSIC GUESTS, both known for having falling asleep during podcast recordings!  Try to guess which one does that on this episode!  Aside from that, we’re talking DISCO, i.e. Discovery’s character problems, how Pike still manages to be cool in the midst of fairy tale magic Klingon time crystal land, the long-awaited return of TIG and LINUS(!),  and beautiful temples.  We’re also talking auto-antonyms and how crazy English is, the Fockers franchise, remembering John Steuer, praising the non-Snyder corners of the DCEU, and #nostalgiabaiting (#nostalgiabating?) about the Discovery-themed Shady Records compilation album.  Grab your time crystal and spore jump into FUN!  End theme by  Klinginem.
