Sam Robinson on Detroit's Political Future
14/08/2025 Duración: 39minIt's been a little over a week since the Primary Election in Detroit. So, now that some of the dust has settled, what's next? The excellent Sam Robinson joined us for a great chat on the Mayoral race with Council President Mary Sheffield and Pastor Solomon Kinloch. We also dove into select council races, especially the rise of the Democratic Socialists of America in local races. Sam Robinson is an accomplished reporter and raconteur, writing for the Michigan Chronicle and the founder of Detroit one million. The Truth About Electric Cars (And The American Auto Industry) ft. Sam Abuelsamid
13/08/2025 Duración: 23minThis week, Ford unveiled a new electric strategy and manufacturing process to a mixed reaction. But it might be one of the most important moves the company makes. Sam Abuelsamid, host of the Wheel Bearings podcast and VP of Market Research at Telemetry, joins us for an in-depth, realistic conversation. We get into the future of electric vehicles in the United States, the importance of why US companies need a real electric strategy no matter what Washington does, and the reality that the future for US automakers is not guaranteed. New Stadium Reaction, I-375 Thoughts, And A Mammoth Demo
12/08/2025 Duración: 29minToday's show is in three parts. The largest part is talking about the new stadium coming for Detroit City FC, AlumniFi Field - that will be rising near Michigan and 20th streets, down the road from the former Tiger Stadium site and tied into the Southwest Detroit and Corktown communities. Get the details, get rendering reactions, and more. Plus, the I-375 project that would have turned it into a surface level boulevard has been "paused" by MDOT. We discuss it from different angles, including the missed opportunity of not engaging the community properly, and the importance of not wasting a decade talking about things and instead just actively engaging and getting it done. And we end with some west side news, as Norris Howard tells us about the demolition of the old Mammoth building on Grand River. The rundown: 00:54 - DCFC's new stadium revealed, welcome to southwest Detroit AlumniFi Field 16:47 - The I-375 project has been put on ice 24:49 - Mammoth Shopping Center demo has started Feedback as always - daily

Defending Detroit's Air + Detroit's New Startup Fund (ft. Darren Riley, Justin Onwenu)
07/08/2025 Duración: 22minToday's show cover a couple of topics in one conversation, both important for the future of the city. Darren Riley, founder and CEO of JustAir, and Justin Onwenu, the director of entrepreneurship for the city of Detroit. Darren discussed the inspiration behind JustAir, and idea that came from his own health challenges. The conversation touched on how the company is trying to inform environmental and health policy, particularly zoning decisions. JustAir is different from your phone's weather app because it can provide data from the block level and is working toward making that information accessible like a nutrition label, so folks can make informed choices about going outside. Justin then discussed the city's investment and focus on providing access grants through the new Detroit Startup Fund. He highlighted that capital, customers, and community are all important and what the city is doing to encourage new companies. From Oakland County to Washington (ft. Rep. Haley Stevens)
04/08/2025 Duración: 27minToday’s show features a conversation with U.S. Representative and Democratic primary candidate for U.S. Senat Haley Stevens. Representing the 11th District since 2019, her district includes Ferndale, Royal Oak, Birmingham, Farmington Hills, Pontiac, Wixom, White Lake, Troy, Auburn Hills, and more. Oakland County is one of the most powerful and economically important areas of the state and country. Plus, many of you, our listeners, live there. We touched on a ton of topics from the auto industry to international issues to the size of coney menus. My goal was to get a sense of what her thoughts were, over my own. After all, she’s in the seat - and running for a higher one in a contested primary. Feedback as always, dailydetroit - at - gmail - dot - com. Cash For People Over Corporations; Sweetgreen Coming; Apple Invests In Detroit
31/07/2025 Duración: 25minJer's back from Chicago and has big thoughts on some false arguments we're making back home in Detroit on transit... to making sure we're investing in projects for the people to the importance of even some density (duplex and triplexes, not giant apartment buildings). After all, if the government is going to give cash... shouldn't we be investing in infrastructure that benefits us all than direct to a multi-national's pocket book? Plus, Sweetgreen is coming to Detroit and Apple is investing in a new academy. Don't forget our big birthday bash is Saturday, August 9!
