Sometimes that's true. Sometimes however, baseball is a small part of life, and other things become far more important. Frank and Christina Gailey came to Australia so Frank could pitch for the Canberra Cavalry in the 2017-18 Australian Baseball League season. Just before Christmas, while Frank was preparing to play in the ABL All-Star Game, Christina was a passenger in a serious car crash and baseball suddenly took a back seat. The Thursday night game on January 4 game has been described by many as the greatest pitching duel the league has seen in its eight seasons and it's a claim that's hard to argue against. Mark Hamburger from the Melbourne Aces threw a complete game, striking out an ABL record 16 batters. And went home as the losing pitcher! Canberra Cavalry stalwart Brian Grening threw a complete game of his own, shutting down Melbourne in just 83 pitches. Also a league record. Canberra won 2-0 but in a game like this, the scoreline was almost secondary.
