  • The Long Island Serial Killer (Live-Stream)

    07/06/2020 Duración: 01h13min

This week, in lieu of a new episode, I'm posting the audio from June 4th's live-stream. I was joined by my good friend Jesse Pollack (The Acid King, Death on the Devil's Teeth) to chat with Robert Kolker (Lost Girls, Hidden Valley Road). We spoke for over an hour, and touched upon Robert's work on the LISK case, some recent developments in the case, and so much more. It was a great chat, and I cannot thank both Robert and Jesse enough! If you're interested, please refer to my prior episodes on the Long Island Serial Killer before listening. We touch upon several topics/subjects that I addressed back then, and might be necessary to have a full understanding. This episode is sponsored by Harry's, which is offering listeners of Unresolved $5 off of a trial set, which includes a 5-blade razor, a weighted handle, foaming shave gel w/aloe, and a travel cover. 31/05/2020 Duración: 43min

Following the arrest of Bill Bradfield in April of 1983, his fate began to look grim.In the ensuing trial, prosecutors would manage to successfully link Bradfield to Susan Reinert's death, as well as at least one other "unnamed co-conspirator" (who many at the time believed to be Bradfield's longtime associate, Jay Smith). Over the next several years, this story would continue to play out, providing answers to some of the overarching questions that had been haunting those in the Main Line region of Pennsylvania, while ignoring the others, which remain unanswered to this day...Part 3/3 Episode hosted, produced, and research/writing by Micheal WhelanOriginal music created by Micheal Whelan through Amper MusicTheme music created and composed by Ailsa TravesProducers: Maggyjames, Roberta Janson, Ben Krokum, Peggy Belarde, Quil Carter, Laura Hannan, Victoria Reid, Gabriella Bromley, Damion Moore, Amy Hampton, Steven Wilson, Scott Meesey, Marie Vanglund, Scott Patzold, Astrid Kneier, Lori Rodriguez, Aimee McGregor,

  • The Main Line Murders (Part Two: Jay & Bill)

    24/05/2020 Duración: 46min

In the years after Susan Reinert's body was discovered, investigators would struggle to latch on to available leads. Early on, investigators had begun to probe the backstories of two men - Jay Smith and Bill Bradfield - but had no concrete evidence linking them to the case. Both men had shady pasts, and undeniable links to the victim (as well as to each other), but were seemingly beyond reproach. Over the next several years, a delicate game of cat-and-mouse would be played throughout the court system. But what started out as a civil suit between Bradfield and Susan Reinert's loved ones would slowly morph into a full-on criminal investigation... 19/04/2020 Duración: 30min

Since 2013, an intricate scheme has plagued the entertainment industry.Posing as high-level executives (primarily female producers and directors), a single scam artist has been luring writers, stunt people, make-up artists, security providers, photographers, and others to Indonesia - where they are ultimately defrauded of assets. Private investigations have unfolded over the past several years, and just recently, the FBI announced that they were looking into this scheme, which has ensnared hundreds of victims... The Golden Age of Piracy - which spanned from the 1650s through the 1730s - would give rise to many notorious figures.Among them was an individual who isn't well-known today, but whose impact upon the world remains just as large (if not greater than the rest). He was one of the first pirates to achieve international notoriety, eventually becoming the first known global fugitive and inspiring a worldwide manhunt. He was a man who embraced the savage world of piracy, earning himself the reputation of being the "King of Pirates"; who managed to escape with not only his riches but, more importantly, his life... • The Austin Yogurt Shop Murders (Part Three: Guilt)

    05/04/2020 Duración: 01h26s

On October 6th, 1999, police in Austin announced the arrest of four suspects in the area's most high-profile cold case. Maurice Pierce and Forrest Welborn were two young men that had been suspected of involvement back in 1991, while Michael Scott and Robert Springsteen - their friends at the time - had been with them on the weekend of the murders. Now in their mid-20's, these four were alleged to have murdered four teenage girls in a yogurt shop years prior, and were subsequently charged with their deaths. Over the next several years, a complicated story would begin to play out in the Texas court system, where anyone's guilt was far from assured. Eventually, the state's case would begin to fall apart under pressure, leading us to the present day...Part 3/3Episode hosted, produced, and research/writing by Micheal WhelanOriginal music created by Micheal Whelan through Amper MusicTheme music created and composed by Ailsa TravesProducers: Maggyjames, Roberta Janson, Ben Krokum, Quil Carter, Peggy Belarde, Laura H

  • The Austin Yogurt Shop Murders (Part Two: Confidence)

    29/03/2020 Duración: 01h15s

"On December 6th, 1991, we - as a city - lost our innocence. Today, we regain our confidence."Those were the words spoken by Austin's mayor Kirk Watson, at a press conference held in October of 1999. In the nearly eight years since four teenage girls had been killed inside of a yogurt shop, the city had rallied behind law enforcement in their desperate pursuit of answers. Now, it appeared like they finally had them. However, the buildup to this announcement was much more complicated than met the eye. Investigators had come and gone, suspects had vanished nearly as quickly as they arrived, and the answers provided by police nearly a decade later were far less than a sure thing... • The Austin Yogurt Shop Murders (Part One: Innocence)

    22/03/2020 Duración: 55min

On the evening of December 6th, 1991, tragedy would strike the capital of Texas. APD Sgt. John Jones Jr. signed onto duty, well aware that he was the only homicide detective working that night. He was actually being filmed by a local news network, who were following around homicide detectives in Texas to see what it was like for police in the larger cities. Sgt. Jones was fully prepared for the production crew to leave empty-handed that weekend. As were they. Both Sergeant Jones and the production crew were settling in for what appeared to be a quiet night when a call came in over his police radio...Part 1/3 Episode hosted, produced, and research/writing by Micheal WhelanOriginal music created by Micheal Whelan through Amper MusicTheme music created and composed by Ailsa TravesProducers: Maggyjames, Roberta Janson, Ben Krokum, Quil Carter, Peggy Belarde, Laura Hannan, Damion Moore, Amy Hampton, Scott Meesey, Steven Wilson, Scott Patzold, Marie Vanglund, Astrid Kneier, Lori Rodriguez, Victoria Reid, Gabriella B

  • The Family Murders (Part Two: The Family)

    08/03/2020 Duración: 54min

As the families of five young men mourned, investigators began to circle around their top suspect, Bevan Spencer von Einem. From the outside looking in, von Einem was incredibly average: a middle-aged accountant for a mid-level supplies company, who lived at home with his mother and regularly endeared himself to her older friends. But underneath the surface, a monster lingered, and police quickly tagged von Einem as the culprit in the latest of the five murders. In the decades since, though, the other four crimes have gone non-prosecuted. Many believe that von Einem did not act alone in the murder that he was convicted of, and may have had help from some of the area's rich and powerful: individuals that have come to be known as "The Family"...Part two of twoI originally covered this story back in 2017. • The Family Murders (Part One: The Murders)

    23/02/2020 Duración: 55min

Between 1979 and 1983, a series of heinous murders shocked Adelaide. The victims were all young men, who had gone missing in or near the northern section of town. The victims ranged in age from 14 to 25, and most were found to have suffered brutal violence, sexual assaults, and/or body mutilation before their death. Some showed signs of prolonged captivity, while death came quick to others. These were connections that were hard to overlook, as police began to theorize that a single offender (or, rather, a group of offenders) had been behind all of these crimes...Part one of twoI originally covered this story back in 2017. • Olivia Thorndike

    16/02/2020 Duración: 01h15min

Throughout 2019, bizarre classified ads started to appear in the Virginia-based Rappahannock Record, which were centered around a cold case four decades in the making.Olivia Thorndike had been a 24-year-old young woman living in Henrico County, whose life came to a sudden and tragic end in November of 1981. While detectives and prosecutors had their suspicions about a couple of men in Olivia's orbit, they were never able to build a convincing case against either. Nearly forty years later, Olivia's case remains unsolved, but some people continue to search for justice (those that knew Olivia, and those that never had the chance). Tragically, that means that there's not a lot of information out there about Olivia, but I've been able to learn a lot about the two violent men that revolved around her in the weeks and months before her death... • "Grave Robbing for Morons"

    09/02/2020 Duración: 56min

For years, sleuths have tried to figure out the secrets behind a bizarre home movie. The video - which was eventually titled "Grave Robbing for Morons" and released as a part of a longer compilation - shows a young man speaking to his friend(s) behind the camera. He holds a human skull throughout and regales with his grave-robbing tips and tricks. Unlike the young man's advice, however, the skull appears to be legitimate. Many question the veracity of the young man's claims, and doubt his advice (which borders on cartoonish at times). However, no one has been able to learn the truth about the video itself, nor the many claims and promises that are made throughout...
