In this episode we focus on the Avonlea Heritage Museum in Avonlea, Saskatchewan. The former CNR station, built in 1912 now proudly displays artifacts that take visitors on a journey back in time. The Avonlea museum has taken advantage of funding available through the Canada Summer Jobs and Young Canada Works funding made available by the Canadian Government.     How involved are you in my community?  Imagine what it must be like for newcomers to Saskatchewan who have so many challenges that many of us take for granted. Perhaps learning a new language, adapting to a new climate, finding ones place in the community and so much more. INVOLVE is an initiative launched in 2015 through the combined efforts of the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan (MCoS), SaskCulture and the Regina Open Door Society (RODS).   The facilitator training program readies select participants from local community organizations to integrate INVOLVE into their own communities.  In turn, newcomers have opportunities where they can begin to contribute to their communities and have their voices heard.       In 2017, Canadians across the country have been planning how their communities would celebrate 150 years of Confederation.  Among those hundreds of events and projects came an idea initiated by Alberta artist Louis Lavoie. A dream to connect our country by creating the mural mosaics project. 150 communities, participated throughout the year, in creating their own murals made from hundreds of individually painted tiles.  Yorkton, Saskatchewan. was one of the participating communities and clearly that city couldn’t have been more proud of the result.  In this episode Kevin Power is joined by 6 guests, via telephone, who contributed to the  creation of the Yorkton mosaic.  In the end, Yorkton’s mural consisted of over 600 individually painted tiles.
