How to be urgent and not panic | Rev. David Pileggi
04/07/2022 Duración: 52min3 July 2022 - 4th Sunday after Pentecost - In our Gospel passage today, Jesus was aware that the national situation was desperate and people were growing frustrated and fearful, some even panicking and turning to extremism as they looked for the answer. In this context, Jesus sent out the 70 with urgent instructions to heal the sick and proclaim the Kingdom of God, and not to become diverted along the way. This passage surely speaks to us today. It is a powerful reminder that in our frustrations with our societies and churches, we cannot be tempted to look for instant, non-biblical solutions. The work of a disciple must rest upon Jesus’ assurance that God’s kingship will continue to expand despite political and cultural obstacles. Thus, Rev. David Pileggi tells us, our response must be urgent and Kingdom-centered but never one of despair or panic. Readings: 2 Kings 5:1-14; Acts 12:19b-24; Luke 10:1-11, 16-20 Blessed by our teachings? Trinitarian Truth in a Post-Modern World | Rev. David Pileggi
13/06/2022 Duración: 41min12 June 2022 - Trinty Sunday - In today's world, truth has become personalized and relative. It is no longer acceptable to speak of “the truth” but can say only “my truth” and “your truth.” In John’s Gospel, Jesus often speaks of “the truth" – which is a correct understanding of who He is, along with right living (doing the truth). Both are necessary to maintain that gift of divine life that we share with the Father and the Son through the Holy Spirit. Pentecost – a day to remember | Rev. Neville Jones
06/06/2022 Duración: 40min5 June 2022 - Pentecost - The day of Pentecost was a truly memorable day, especially for those disciples that received the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Deacon Neville Jones looks at the context of when and where this happened – its relationship to Easter and where the disciples were gathered – as well as its significance for the spread of the gospel. Using Ezekiel’s vision of the river of God, he offers a final reflection on the power and effect of the Holy Spirit and our calling to be part of it. Why did Jesus have to go away? | Rev. David Pileggi
30/05/2022 Duración: 48min29 May 2022 - Seventh Sunday of Easter - The Ascension is a neglected event in Jesus' life, says Rev. David Pileggi. When we think of what saves us, many of us think of Jesus' death and resurrection. However, every aspect of Jesus' life ministers salvation to us -- from his birth all the way to the ascension, from his continuing ministry of intercession before the Father all the way to his coming return. Home, Sweet Home | Rev. David Pileggi
23/05/2022 Duración: 47min22 May 2022 - Sixth Sunday of Easter - Our three scripture passages today are about Home. We all have a desire for the security, well-being and blessing that a home gives us. And no matter how good or how dysfunctional our childhood home was, we all know what the ideal home should be. But where can we find it? The biblical understanding is that home is in our relationship with God. It’s a gift that’s on offer, one that we don’t have to earn. We enter solely by grace. It’s a phenomenal promise, but our residency there depends upon maintaining the relationship. Our readings today teach us what is essential towards that end. Gimme Shelter | Rev. David Pileggi
09/05/2022 Duración: 45min8 May 2022 - On the fourth Sunday of the Easter season, known as Good Shepherd Sunday in Anglican and other church traditions, we look at the imagery of the shepherd (both good and wicked) found in Scripture from Genesis through Revelation. The shepherd of Psalm 23, Jesus the Good Shepherd, and the shepherd who leads to living water in the book of Revelation encourage us to listen and to follow Him to meet our most fundamental human needs. Raised, Restored, Commissioned | Rev. John Howanstine
02/05/2022 Duración: 47min1 May 2022 - Third Sunday of Easter - In the Gospel of John, the resurrected Jesus again reveals himself, tenderly providing to a group of weary and wavering disciples a miraculous catch of fish. He also supplies them with breakfast, assurance, restored relationship with Himself, and the call to steadfastly follow Him in caring for His flock and expanding His kingdom. Peter, near the end of his life of faithfully following Jesus even to martyrdom, reflects on this event and its importance for us in our weariness and wavering. Rev. John Howanstine reminds us how Peter concludes his first epistle with this encouragement: "And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast." Can God trust you with his silence? | Andrew Brunson
26/04/2022 Duración: 47min24 April 2022 - At the Crossroads 2022 - In 2016, Andrew Brunson was arrested by the Turkish government on false charges and imprisoned for more than two years. Andrew connects his imprisonment to a prayer he began praying in 2007: "Father God, draw me so close to your heart that you will trust me with the authority to start waves." While Andrew believes his arrest was a satanic attack, he also believes God used it to test him and refine him. Andrew says not hearing God's voice or sensing his presence in prison broke him. Yet the deep-rooted love nurtured over years of pursuing the heart of God sustained Andrew through his dark night of the soul and drew him into an intimacy known only by God's battle-tested saints. Behind that locked door| Rev. David Pileggi
26/04/2022 Duración: 49min24 April 2022 - Second Sunday of Easter - History records accounts of Jewish disciples standing by and dying with their martyred rabbis. Rev. David Pileggi reminds us that most of Jesus' students abandoned their teacher at his death. Were they hiding from Jesus in the upper room? After the resurrection, Jesus enters their locked room -- not with justified anger -- but with words of peace and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Jesus calls us from our locked rooms to trust in the relationship we have with him and courageously imitate our holy God.
