  • 123: From The Archives - Iconic Manchester United No 7s

    26/09/2021 Duración: 36min

From George Best and Willie Morgan to David Beckham and Cristiano, Shaun Connolly begins his From The Archives series for the Strettycast by looking back at the iconic number 7s to play for Manchester United. Author and lifelong Red, Pete Molyneux, recalls watching Best and gives us a lesson on how the number 7 became iconic at Old Trafford - players who would entertain the crowds. • 122: Carabao Cup exit

    24/09/2021 Duración: 21min

Manchester United have played West Ham twice since our last recording - winning 2-1 win in the Premier League and losing 1-0 in the Carabao Cup. This means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side has managed 13 points from the first five league matches of the season, but they've also crashed out of the League Cup prematurely - and everyone knows the manager needs a trophy. Dale is joined by former academy graduate Daniel Nardiello to discuss the games and several performers. Cristiano Ronaldo made it 3 goals in 4 games at the weekend before Jesse Lingard and David de Gea took the headlines after a memorable trip to London, but it wasn't a night to remember at Old Trafford on Wednesday. Saturday's early kick-off will see United aiming to get back to winning ways and to stay within reach of first place in the Premier League table. Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho got a chance in the cup and both performed well - but hear what the lads had to say on the Strettycast. Get in touch with the podcast by emailing: dale@strettyn

  • 121: Shock in Switzerland after Cristiano Ronaldo party

    16/09/2021 Duración: 34min

The atmosphere at Old Trafford was something else on Saturday for Cristiano Ronaldo’s homecoming, so Dale is joined by two guests to talk about the 4-1 win over Newcastle United and the drab 2-1 defeat away to Young Boys.   Brian Murphy and Shaun Connolly give their thoughts immediately after the final whistle in Switzerland, and we’ll have a separate podcast later this week with Daniel Nardiello to get his usual insight as a former academy graduate at Manchester United.   It went very wrong against Young Boys but, despite what you see across social media, nobody on this podcast is calling for the manager’s head. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing a good job, but he needs to do a great job.   Expectations are as high as they could be even after a hiccup in the Champions League – because that’s what we believe it is… rather than a repeat of last year’s campaign, when United crashed into the Europa League.   Europa League Varane doesn’t quite have the same ring to it!   Put your feet up or prepare for your commute e

  • 120: Cristiano Ronaldo returns

    02/09/2021 Duración: 34min

A balanced but insightful chat between Dale O'Donnell, Daniel Nardiello and Jonathan Shrager after the summer transfer window shut. In this episode we discussed Cristiano Ronaldo's return to the club and expectations for the coming season after securing 7 points from the opening three matches of the Premier League season. The glaring issues that existed a week ago remain despite the arrival of Ronaldo, so Dale asks the lads whether the business done over the summer is enough to see United compete for the Premier League title. And Shrager makes a very valid point on that - about what people think when they say 'challenge'. Nards tells us what it was like being at United when Ronaldo first joined the club, as a skinny 18-year-old from Sporting Lisbon. • 119: Better call Saul and leave VdB on hold?

    25/08/2021 Duración: 34min

In this episode Nards, Shaun and I discuss the 1-1 draw against Southampton at the weekend. Was it a reality check? Even without our new marquee signings signing, the glaring issues won't be addressed until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gets the midfield he wants. We analyse the decision to shift Mason Greenwood out wide on the right to accommodate Anthony Martial, kneejerk reactions from social media, implications for Donny van de Beek if Saul Niguez joins before deadline day, Declan Rice's situation and Gary Neville's obsession with Harry Kane. Nards, as a former striker that came through the United academy, shows how all he can see is goals - like a true goalscorer. • 118: Mason Greenwood, future number 9

    19/08/2021 Duración: 43min

In this episode Dale, Shaun and Joe discuss the opening game of the new Premier League season after Manchester United beat Leeds 5-1. We chat about Mason Greenwood's future as United's number 9, optimism as we start the new campaign, Scott McTominay's evolution, needing a defensive midfielder, the right wing and whether the Reds can mount a title challenge. As well as some listener questions about Edinson Cavani, Victor Lindelof and new signing Raphael Varane. • 117: "Dirty Leeds" - Chat with Daniel Nardiello

    12/08/2021 Duración: 32min

The first episode of the new season with former Manchester United academy graduate Daniel Nardiello. Nards took some time out to join Dale as they discussed a range of topics concerning the Red Devils ahead of the new season. Manchester United kick off the new Premier League campaign against "dirty Leeds" on Saturday. *Includes stories from the Manchester United dressing room* Hosted on Acast. • 116: Does Solskjaer have the tools to compete for the Premier League?

    03/08/2021 Duración: 19min

Stretty News editor Dale O'Donnell discusses the expectations on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer next season. Manchester United have significantly boosted their squad with two additions this summer, including Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, which has been enough to make us optimistic. That's healthy for a football fan - to feel this way before the season starts - but does Solskjaer have the tools when it truly matters? • HERE WE GO! Transfer special with Fabrizio Romano - Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, Eduardo Camavinga

    29/06/2021 Duración: 34min

Dale is joined by Fabrizio Romano on the podcast! The Italian football journalist joins me for a run down on everything Manchester United in the transfer market. Manchester United are still in the process of completing a deal to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and reports suggest they will quickly turn their attention to signing a centre-back to bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's defence. Paul Pogba's future remains up in the air but United's stance is clear. They want the Frenchman to stay and sign a new contract -- now with France out of the Euros, we should see movement on that front soon. We also talk about Eduardo Camavinga, who has been heavily linked with a move this summer. His contract expires at Rennes next summer and United could see that as a potential bargain down the line. • Episode 114 - Europa League disappointment is very VillarREAL

    29/05/2021 Duración: 31min

Dale O'Donnell reflects on Europa League heartache. Yes, we'll get over it. It's a second-rate competition at the end of the day but it's worrying to see Manchester United fall at another hurdle. How many more until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wins a trophy? That final produced more questions than answers. In this episode, I talk about how only United two players can be proud of their performance in Gdansk and what is next for the manager. We've got a busy summer coming up and hopefully United are busy because Solskjaer needs to be backed. The squad isn't strong enough to compete and the board needs to address that to give Solskjaer any hope. Hopefully you enjoy the podcast and come back for more Strettycast throughout the summer. • Episode 113 - UEL Final: Possible gateway for more success and another departing keeper

    25/05/2021 Duración: 21min

The squad is in Gdnask for the Europa League final and I'm excited about our chances despite knowing Harry Maguire is a massive doubt for the game. These are occasions Edinson Cavani and Bruno Fernandes live for -- and they know they'll crave the next final from the second this one ends. It could be a gateway for more success, although that wasn't the case in 2017 and we get on to that in this week's episode. Also on the agenda is news from the bunker about who starts in goal on Wednesday night. Sources have told Stretty News what the general feeling is within the club ahead of the final, and how I think it will impact one player's future. Again, a massive thank you for listening. • Episode 112 - Glazers feeling the pressure

    17/05/2021 Duración: 24min

The theatre of crime. That is what Old Trafford has become under the Glazer family’s ownership. Gone are the days it can be known as the Theatre of Dreams unless you can convince me Marcus Rashford always wanted to beat Villarreal in a Europa League final. Jokes aside, quite a serious podcast for you this week. I haven’t pressed record in over two weeks due to being in hospital (again), so I returned this morning on my own to discuss the latest protests and how I believe the Glazers are feeling the pressure. I take 20 minutes out to discuss some of the events over the past month and how Gary Neville has written to the Government asking for an independent football regulator to be introduced to the game. This week, I discuss: -      Do the Glazers really care about protests at Old Trafford? -      It’s more than the ESL and some trophies -      Fans from afar – knowing your place -      Independent football regulator and more! • Episode 111 - Ed Woodward does runner after ESL collapse

    22/04/2021 Duración: 57min

Wow. It's been a whirlwind. Dale and Mike chat about the ongoing events this week on the Strettycast. The battle is ongoing but first we need to get through the wreckage. Ed Woodward has resigned in timely fashion and we can't help but think it has a lot to do with the European Super League failure. Some might say he went out on his sword. United fans have long known that these parasites were no good for the game, but now it sounds like English football has woken. We look to the models in Germany in hope - but how does a 50+1 ruling come into play? Is it possible or have we gone too far? Thanks for listening and we'll be back on Monday with another episode. • Episode 110 - Webby & O'Neill - Backing Solskjaer and update on Declan Rice

    14/04/2021 Duración: 26min

Welcome to another Strettycast, the Manchester United podcast, with Webby & O’Neill joining me to talk about the latest stories as we look to finish the current season strongly. In this episode I chat to Webby & O’Neill about their terrific YouTube channel, set up with the aim of bringing enthusiasm back to United fans. Both of them are supportive of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, like myself, and feel he’s the best man for the job. Tony O’Neill tells the Strettycast that if Harry Kane leaves Tottenham this summer, the England captain will join Chelsea, not United as he’s settled and happy living in London. On Jesse Lingard, the lads explain why the England midfielder appears to have found his level at West Ham, with O'Neill adding: "He will never get a long run in our team because teams come to Old Trafford and set up defensively. "No team sets up defensively against West Ham. That's why he's looking good because he's got more freedom to run around." The conversation moved on to a point where we spoke about United's

  • Episode 109 - Solskjaer laughs off pathetic Mourinho

    14/04/2021 Duración: 36min

Welcome to another Strettycast, the Manchester United podcast, with myself and Mike. In this episode we enjoy the 3-1 win over Tottenham, José Mourinho had a meltdown and the matchday photographers had a great time at the so-called Special One’s expense. Of course, Mourinho isn’t all that special. We learned that during his time in charge at Old Trafford. Sure, we enjoyed the Europa League and League Cup triumphs but with Mourinho it was more about him, rather than us. No unity and a lot of unhappy happy faces is what I can remember of Mourinho’s time before he got the axe. Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood all got on the scoresheet. We then take listener questions about Greenwood’s role in the team, eating habits with the Solskjaer family and lots more. Remember, you can send us questions via email which we’ll try and get to each week. You can also send them to either @StrettyNews or @Strettycast (or both). • Episode 108 - Success in Spain

    10/04/2021 Duración: 49min

Manchester United defeated Granada 2-0 in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie in Spain on Thursday to put themselves in pole position for a place in the last four. Marcus Rashford raced on to a long ball by Victor Lindelof to fire United in front. Bruno Fernandes converted a late penalty after he was caught off the ball by Yan Eteki, leaving him with a bruised eye, but the Portuguese midfielder's spot-kick went through the hands of Rui Silva. United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be without the suspended trio of captain Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay for the second leg at Old Trafford next week. Assessing the performances at Los Carmenes, Dale and Mike provide their thoughts on Granada v Manchester United. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information. • Episode 107 - Granada preview with Heath Chesters

    08/04/2021 Duración: 49min

Welcome to another Strettycast, the Manchester United podcast, with myself and Mike.   In this episode, we are joined by Heath Chesters, a Mancunian who fell in love with Granada and worked for the club.   We talk about Diego Martinez, the 40-year-old manager who is seen as the next big time coming out of Spain at the moment. Not forgetting familiar face Roberto Soldado after netting 10 goals for the La Liga outfit this season.   You can subscribe to the Strettycast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and aCast.   If you’re a fan of the show, please leave us a rating/review on Apple Podcasts. • Episode 106 - FA Cup nightmare ahead of international break

    22/03/2021 Duración: 56min

Welcome to another Strettycast, the Manchester United podcast, with myself and Mike.   In this episode, we question Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team selection against Leicester City after United crashed out of the FA Cup.   The goals were conceded were abysmal (Dean Henderson wasn’t at fault for any of them) and questions are also asked of our defense and midfield.   There was no key influence on the pitch for United yesterday. The system failed against a tactically fluid Leicester side that were underestimated from the start. It was worth remembering ahead of kick-off that this is a team one point behind United in the league.   You can subscribe to the Strettycast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and aCast.   If you’re a fan of the show, please leave us a rating/review on Apple Podcasts. • Episode 105 - Pogba back with a bang

    19/03/2021 Duración: 52min

Strettycast episode 105 - Dale and Mike react to an important win against AC Milan at the San Siro. This episode was record before the draw took place for the quarter-finals, so we'll discuss that on Monday morning. Paul Pogba took the headlines after coming on as a half-time substitute, only to score the match-winner minutes later. He was superb in the middle and gave United a new lease of life. Having him back fit will be a huge bonus and our fingers are firmly crossed with hope he avoids injury or illness while away with the French squad next week. The lads are confident about going all the way in the Europa League this season after beating AC Milan, who after United were probably the best side left in the competition before we knocked them out. A big thank you to everyone to tuned in live on Friday morning for the Strettycast LIVE. We will continue to make this feature available on YouTube, Periscope and Facebook to give listens a variety of platforms to find us on. Email the show: dale@strettynews.com T

  • Episode 104 - The David Moyes Derby

    15/03/2021 Duración: 55min

I don't think anyone calls it the David Moyes derby but we do. Manchester United got over the line against West Ham who came to Old Trafford to defend. The visitors sat back and welcomed pressure. It didn't work and as soon as they conceded an own goal they began to attack the Reds in numbers. West Ham deserved to lose the game given how they approached it from the start. It was dull and exactly what you'd expect of 90 minutes of football with Moyes. It was arguably one of Harry Maguire's best performances in the shirt despite Luke Shaw being rewarded as MOTM. Mason Greenwood didn't score but did everything else you would expect from a centre-forward. This is the start of a tricky week for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Will be answer the next round of questions coming his way? United have two cup games before the international break and the Norwegian needs to win a trophy. Some stats Moyes still only has 7 wins at Old Trafford in his whole career, including wins as Manchester United manager. Moyes carries on his p
