    20/01/2014 Duración: 51min

Last week's  2013 Year In Review show took longer than expected - so we had to break off this conversation into its own episode. First, Bo talks with Tripp about a 'Kind' of Conservatism. Then Micky and Bo chat about gendering God. You may want to check out Bo's old post on Calling God She and She Who Is Not as well as Elizabeth Johnson's Barrel-Aged podcast about the Quest for the Living God. At minute 30, Tripp returns with some reflections on the Intelligent Design interview from last year that got such a big ... shall we say ... response from listeners. The Theology Nerd Throwdown is excited to welcome Chalice Press. They are the offical publishing sponsor with lots of great books and resources for theology nerds, preachers, and church planters. They just might become your #1 favorite progressive Christian publisher. So check them out. Follow the podcast, drop a review, send feedback/questions or become a member of the HBC Community. • Promise, Gift, and Postmodern Theology... oh and the Hobbit with Gregory Walter

    14/01/2014 Duración: 01h17min

It's a new year and time to meet a new theologian!  Gregory Walter is a professor of religion at St. Olaf in Minnesota and author of Being Promised: Theology, Gift & Practice -  one of the 5 books on the Theology Nerd's Christmas list.  In our conversation we discuss Luther, Derrida, phenomenology, Jungel, and a bunch of other goodies.  Greg's book is pretty awesome.  It's ground-breaking, less than 100 pages, nerdy and practical.... plus the cover pic is stylish. I had a HUGE blast talking with Dr. Walter.  When you get to talk about a book you enjoyed, get side tracked on Jungel, and discuss the Hobbit it's called a podcast victory! I can't wait for his next visit to Homebrewed. Follow the podcast, drop a review, send feedback/questions or become a member of the HBC Community. Learn more about your ad choices. • The Historical St. Nick, the White Santa, Marxist Pope, & More: Christmas Special w/ Adam English

    23/12/2013 Duración: 59min

Santa & Jesus aren't white, Christmas isn't about Capitalism, the Pope isn't a Marxist leftist, the Christian Calendar is a hardcore form of resistance, and you find out that Roger Olson's own student turned Tripp into a Process theologian. That is just a bit of what is in store for you in this special Christmas episode! Tripp planned on just getting a TNT segment out of his chat with Adam... then they just kept talking... and it turned in to a Christmas present for all the Deacons. Dr. Adam English, author of The Saint Who Would be Clause and Remixing Theology, is professor of Religion and Philosophy at Campbell University.  He has been on the podcast before discussing St. Nick & giving us a little taste of Post-Liberal\Conservative theology. • Quest for the Living God w/ Elizabeth Johnson

    17/11/2013 Duración: 46min

The 20th century was an amazing time for the doctrine of God. All of a sudden the church unleashed a bunch of voices previously silenced to hear their testimony, explorations & experiences of God... and theology got so much better.  Legendary Catholic Theologian - Elizabeth Johnson - is on this episode of the Barrel Aged Homebrewed Podcast.  We discuss her book Quest for the Living God  which is simply one of the best introductions to theology I know.  It is super readable, intellectually honest, and energizing for the theo-nerd brain.  I have given this book as a gift to a bunch of my friends and constantly get told "wow that was way too clear for a theology book!" With over 5 years of interviews under out belt – having gone from just friends listening to 50k – realizing that there are a ton of people who can’t get the best interviews from the past – let us introduce you to Homebrewed Christianity Barrel Aged podcast. • 12 Years A Slave: Movie Review and Theological Reflection

    09/11/2013 Duración: 01h22min

Bo sat down with J. Ryan Parker last month after they were given a sneak-peek at the movie 12 Years A Slave. After a review of the merits in the movie-making elements of the film, the talk turns theological.  If you haven't seen the movie, you may want to skip to the 13-14 minutes mark to avoid some big spoilers.  Around the 38th minute mark is when things turn theological. You can find Parker's review over at Pop Theology [here] You can find Bo's theological reflection [here]  This week’s episode is sponsored by The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology. • Marcus Borg, Tony Jones, & the Resurrection w/ Jonnie #NerdOut

    22/10/2013 Duración: 01h29min

Jonnie joined my in the HBC Headquarters in Redondo Beach. In the podcast we start discussing the resurrection exchange between Marcus Borg & Tony Jones [aka ToJo] & then end up on the necessity of a physical resurrection, atonement, eschatology, evangelical's Easter concern, and Pannenberg. Attempting to fill in for the BoDaddy is a difficult task but Jonnie did a pretty good job.  I think I will let him back on the TNT w/ the BoDaddy so Bo can make sure we actually stay on topic.  You will notice I actually start a couple lists of theological options and then get distracted by Pannenberg and John Cobb.  The BoDaddy is a pro and knows to limit such theological temptations.  During the podcast we drank the Burning Bush IPA and gave a shout out to 350.org for climate change info. In the podcast we discuss these books: 1) Bodies and Souls, or Spirited Bodies? & Beyond Liberalism and Fundamentalism by  Nancey Murphey 2) Jesus: God & Man by Wolfhart Pannenberg 3) Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time by
