Recently the public saw photos and videos of of terrorists prisoners in Gaza stripped and bound being rounded up by troops, some surrendering their weapons, most semi-naked to make sure they were not carrying bombs as they were forced to kneel or sit on the ground. The photos were leaked by IDF soldiers and were not part, apparently, of the IDF’s psychological warfare operations. But it sparked concerns, even outrage, that the IDF maybe violating possible rights of prisoners or humiliating them. Reserve Colonel Miri Eisen, the director of the International Institute for Counter Terrorism at Reichman University, said there were two aspects of images in war: showing victory for yourself and showing the other side they were defeated and sometimes this same image can backfire. She told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that in the Middle East strength is revered and that images may not look well in the West, but do in the region among both Israel’s friends and foes. The Iranian-backed Houthis are not necessarily in a command-and-control relationship with Tehran, and may be acting against Israel for their own Yemeni interests. Just ahead of the Hanukkah festival, the English language edition has been published of From Time to Time: Journeys in the Jewish Calendar, by Rabbi Professor Dalia Marx, of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, Jerusalem. Translated by Rabbi Peretz E. Rodman, with a forward by Rabbi David Ellenson, the book  blends traditional and contemporary perspectives on each Hebrew month and its holidays, incorporating a diverse range of sources, including traditional interpretations and the voices of feminist theorists and modern scholars. The goal of Hamas is to have Israel kill as many Palestinians as possible in order to draw world condemnation and isolate Israel. But the performance of the IDF was actually keeping civilian casualties lower compared to all other militaries engaged in war. This according to Colonel Richard Kemp, former British army commander, who has been in Israel almost since the war began. Colonel Kemp, who has spent most his life fighting terrorism and insurgency, commanding British troops on the front line in Afghanistan and Iraq, told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that the IDF has no option other than destroying Hamas and stay in the Gaza Strip like it is in Judea and Samaria. The Gaza war with Hamas has inevitably put back on the agenda a two-state solution, with US President Joe Biden’s administration and others repeatedly pushing it as part of the day after plan. And yet, a new poll by the Israel Democracy Institute has found that a growing number of Israelis no longer support a two state solution.  It also found a belligerent huge majority supporting a resumption of fighting against Hamas. Interestingly, Israeli Arabs were felling more identification with Israel but also had a rising sense of insecurity due to fear from attacks from radical Jews. Trevor Asserson, a lawyer of British origin, is today the founder and senior partner in Asserson Law Offices, Israel’s largest international law firm, with some 60 lawyers. He  has for years been monitoring  the BBC’s coverage of Israel and of its conflict with the Palestinians, and  claims the BBC  is biased against Israel.  Asserson  is drawing up a  complaint, in accordance with the BBC’s own guidelines, focusing on the BBC’s coverage of the current war.
