After a week off and both guys spending some time being sick they rise from the ashes for an E3 Blowout Podcast. But first some catching up. Hank saw (and wrote up a review for…) Jurassic World. Also the Steam Sale happened so he played a ton of games: Elite Dangerous, Galactic Civilizations III, Verdun, Lethal League, Ultra Street Fighter IV, and Game of Thrones (Telltale). Both he and Paul played Duck Game and tried out the new Tavern Brawl in Hearthstone. Paul revisited Final Fantasy VII and then tried out AKIBA’S TRIP: Undead & Undressed. With that out of the way, the guys are joined by @T_Pomps and @FoxytheKid to break down E3.

The guys expect to have a short podcast, but fuck it up and just keep talking. Paul’s computer hates Swery65 games so instead of trying D4 he’s just been playing a lot of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Hank’s not sure if he wants to play it which turns into a conversation about open world games. Also, they’re kinda over the hill with GTA V and Heroes of the Storm. Instead, Paul’s been spending some quality time with his 3DS; playing Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures, SteamWorld Dig, and Demon King Box (Because boobs). He’s also the last person on the internet to play Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.. Meanwhile, Hank is still chipping away at Devil Survivor: Overclocked, and is really into Massive Chalice.

We’ve been gone for two weeks! Where, you might ask? Well… nowhere! While not podcasting, we’ve been playing video games like Killing Floor 2, Crypt of the NecroDancer and Heroes of the Storm. Speaking of Heroes of the Storm, eSports and ESPN invite Blizzard into their domain as the Heroes of the Dorm tournament happened over the weekend so we discuss some of that as well. Hank went to see Ex Machina and White God (written review can be found here). Konami basically implodes, Steam pisses off the internet and, maybe worst of all, Five Nights At Freddy’s 4 is announced. What the hell happens when we leave for awhile?!

Nathan has a movie secret and he’s not telling anyone. Can we crack his mystery?

This week, Hank and Paul swoon over Life is Strange in a big bad way while also enjoying Ori and the Blind Forest and reliving Tekken days. Paul plays Battlefield Hardline and Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number while Hank checked out Yoot Tower (yeah, I dunno either) and goes hard in Heroes of the Storm. In movies, Hank watches some good stuff including It Follows (which you can read a review of it here). Also, The Purge is a terrible movie that should never been watched. Ever.

Nathan comes back to spit fire about innumerable things he’s been doing in his offline time. We talk about Ready Player One, nostalgic 80s kids movies and that new Neill Blomkamp Short Circuit rip-off Chappie. Hank goes to see a bunch of new stuff he has opinions on such as ’71, Run All Night and The Salvation. Paul and Hank gush about Cities: Skylines and Ori and the Blind Forest. Also, the return of 4 hour episodes? Sorry!

Paul and Hank spend a lot of their time this week playing Diablo III: Reaper of Souls and loving every minute of it. Due to this, Paul revisits Diablo II to his disappointment. Speaking of disappointment, BloodLust Shadowhunters fails to impress in its current state as well. Meanwhile, Hank reads some great comics like Sex Criminals and Jack Staff and gets weirded out by Marvelous Melmo. Also, Battlefield 4 looks great!

Due to real-life making scheduling harder for Paul and Nathan to get together frequently, Hank (@iam3Dhomer) joins Paul for a new era of podcasting history to talk a whole lot of movies and games. Paul finally watches John Wick and loves it and has been playing a bunch of Heroes of the Storm. Hank enjoys some time with Project Almanac, gets some good grizzled Jude Law in Black Sea, has fun with Jupiter Ascending and finds his favorite movie of 2015 so far with Kingsman: The Secret Service. Also, Hank runs down his top 10 best and worst movies of 2014!

Nathan joins Paul in person to bring you a rundown of some of the best and worst things he’s been up to in literature, movies and video games. They chat a bit about iconic movie makes such as Uwe Boll, Tim Burton’s new movie Big Eyes, some potential Razzie nominees for 2014, and Fable II? Also, want to see a movie about a goth kid and a women 59 years older than him hook up?

New Amiibos means more Amiibo talk! Nathan goes to see a 10 year old God throw plagues around in Exodus: Gods and Kings while Paul watches that new Carrie movie with Chloë Grace Moretz. Trying to find a new game to get into, Nathan scoffs at Gears of War 3, gets bored by Borderlands 2 and find some solace in… Resident Evil 6?

Nathan catches Amiibola and we discuss the rarity of Amiibos, their release dates and make some predictions. Weird Kijiji stories happen and somehow Nathan acquires a box of old Atari PC games (sans computer). Paul finally sees Interstellar, is playing a lot of World of Warcraft and talks about dumpster diving.

Nathan is back from Disneyland and tells us his adventures in the “happiest place on Earth”. In the time between episodes, he’s also seen most of the new movies out and talks a bit about them while Paul watches a bunch of Regular Show and seems to enjoy it. Also, new Call of Duty is actually good?

Paul plays more Alien: Isolation and, while still liking it, discovers just how “gamey” it can be. Nathan dives into The Evil Within and gets Paul to commit to playing more of it since it apparently gets playable (maybe?). Fury is kind of a boring waste of time of a movie but Bug is the best screen-acting Nathan has seen in a long time. Also, we find out Nathan’s “Movie Of The Year” already.

Nathan has some issues getting into Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and instead gets enthralled by Alien: Isolation. Paul watches Video Games: The Movie and has nothing to say about it. Also, more talk about how shitty the internet is being to each other lately.

Nathan sees all the new movies this week by spending some time with Annabelle, watching Denzel kick ass in The Equalizer and hoping Ben Affleck doesn’t ruin Gone Girl. Paul catches up on some classics he’s been missing like The Frozen Ground and Killing Them Softly at work. Vib-Ribbon finally sees North American shores and the SEGA Genesis had some good games on it. Also, we bite off more than we can chew by agreeing to take on making a list of the best games of ALL TIME!

Although Yacht Club Games has a single game under their name, many of the members have a history of creating games under company WayForward Technologies combining modern game-making with retro game sensibilities and homage. We were lucky enough to steal some time from David D’Angelo and Ian Flood of Yacht Club Games to discuss Shovel Knight, the effects of YouTube as advertisement, using Kickstarter as a funding platform and thoughts about Shovel Knight related spin-off games!

This week, Paul is underwhelmed but satisfied with Guardians of the Galaxy while Nathan cracks into his newly acquired Laser-Disc collection by watching Howard the Duck… and actually LIKES it?!? I don’t know but it’s obvious he doesn’t like The Sopranos: Road To Respect on the PlayStation 2 almost as much as Paul hates The Waste Land. Also, Paul retells a tale of burning toys in a fireplace.

Lucas Pope is a man of many talents; he has to be to fully realize his ideas for games. Although hitting the jackpot with Papers, Please, Mr. Pope has been making games and working in the industry for years. Between UI/menu design for the Uncharted series and a “dystopian document thriller”, Lucas loves working on video games and was good enough to share some insight with us!
