It had been a challenging month having just had his Mother pass into heaven while in WuhanCovid-19 lockdowns in a nursing facility.    To be honest, we were a little weary and tender in heart, and still had preparations to do for our Family Christmas Day dinner and celebration with our Son Joel and his wife Angela and our 4 Grandchildren. Our youngest son Tim and his wife Liz were in Texas with her family. This had also been during the most severe time of lockdowns and restrictions in our State. Everything felt hard, and dark, and mean.   As we were driving away after picking up salads, my sister texted and asked if we were going to look for the  “Christmas Star”, Or, the two planet convergence taking place that evening at dusk. I was staying in his parent’s home and my husband had his own house about 10 miles away. One evening I had gone into the living room of my in-laws to play the piano and worship and sing to the Lord, and while I was worshiping Him and enjoying being in His presence, I had what would be described as a screen being dropped out in front of my eyes take place, and I had a very visual picture to watch or as the Bible would call it, a vision. Don’t you wish Christianity could make you exempt from suffering? That would be great, but as most of us have learned, following our faith doesn’t give us a free ride. We catch as much trouble as unbelievers—often more. The difference, of course, is that we can turn to Jesus when things go wrong. Unbelievers might argue that we’re only turning to our imagination, but we know better. And we do have to, in a sense, choose what to believe.   Pontius Pilate seemed quite comfortable with that. Jesus was "talking truth" and Pilate lived in a place of work where “truth” was meaningless. All that his employer cared about was results!   The world’s vision of truth is attractive. It allowed Pilate go back to his home at the end of the day…it allowed the Priests to deal with that "problematic man Jesus" while still being able to eat the Passover.  It sends the crowds home from the protest hoping that the rebellion will start soon and be successful. (That sure sounds familiar doesn’t it!)    Pilate was dealing with those "pesky" Hebrews. The poor guy is the governor and he can’t even get the latest group of complainers to come into his house because it’s Passover, that would make them “unclean,” and they wouldn’t be able to eat the sacred meal. There ABSOLUTELY is risk associated with the shifting of your focus, choices and standards. For some, there is risk that the newness that God is bringing will also bring an ending to their way of doing things, an ending to the security of the past. For others there is risk that they will be the people called to forge into new territory in the power of the Spirit, to announce and help build and steward the newness that God is bringing. I often ponder (at times I stew and pace) about where the church is in this post-modern culture and where it desperately needs to be heading. I feel a change in the air. I sense a new freshness and direction being orchestrated by the Lord in His church, meaning His people. By Mary Lindow This message just"might" hit close to home.   I have been thinking a lot this week about arrogance and those finger pointing individuals who enjoy belittling others and simply love to be plain old snarky. Just look at the headlines of newspapers, Internet news and gossip columns! With the stroke of a key or two, words written imply things that can break hearts, ruin trust, hope, National Security and relationships. THERE IS SUCH A HARSH STING TO THE HEART   WHEN THE CRUEL WORDS OF SOMEONE ELSE INTENTIONALLY  DOES A VERBAL SLAP DOWN OR SHAMES YOU. Usually it occurs when THEY believe that THEY are absolutely right or have "superior" knowledge, and that others are the "lesser" and are the "wrong- big- dummies". This mean and sour arrogance, which uses power to belittle or harm others, is something that crushes and cripples hearts and dreams. It's a secret and deep seething storm inside of the soul of those who feel they have rights and superior thinking that justifies weaponizing words. Y
