Samiyyah Saafir-Muhammad was born Jacqueline Glover in New York City in 1951. After spending her early years in foster care, moving four times before the age of three, she settled in with her aunt, following her father’s passing. While still in elementary school Samiyyah took an interest in helping other students do well, joining “The Future Teachers’ Club” in the fifth grade. As a high school student, Samiyyah became aware her people’s struggle for freedom—witnessing civil rights demonstrations, protests, assassinations and riots—and decided she wanted to help somehow.  It was in this atmosphere that she went off to Northeastern University in Boston where she majored in Education. Her stay there was short-lived, however, as she was introduced to the teachings of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad and thereafter joined the Nation of Islam. A graduate of the New World School of the Arts in Florida, he quickly became part of the local Miami music scene.

She was born in Austin, Texas, on September 11, 1949, and raised in San Antonio, TX, and Las Cruces, NM. Carolyn lived a full life; she was a college professor at Hostos Community College in the nursing department as well as a nurse anesthetist at Kings County Hospital. Her students greatly admired her and attributed their successful journeys through the nursing program to her. At the time of her death, she was working on a doctorate degree in Public Health, with a concentration on adolescent health of Hispanic and African-American teenage girls. Carolyn's passion was documentary filmmaking. Her tribute to the perseverance of a cultural tradition "Juneteenth Community", took eight years to complete. Hosted By: Jojopahmaria Nsoroma Age of Illumination  Tonight's Guest:  Mr. Damareo Cooper  Damareo Cooper is the Organizing Director for the Ohio Organizing Collaborative and the Lead Organizer for Standup Ohio.  Both of these organizations work on pressing social and economic issues such as voting rights and the mass incarceration of non-violent offenders.  Since 2011, Damareo and his staff have successfully facilitated over 10,000 new voter registrations.  In his hometome of Akron, Ohio, Damareo has provided powerful and effective community leadership for advocacy and actions regarding home foreclosures, the school to prison pipeline, and most recently, arousing 300 community members for the passing of a fair hiring policy.  Damareo has also provided leadership for the establishment of the East Akron Unification Committee, whose members are committed to enhancing the living conditions for the residents of their community.
