France lose on penalties to Switzerland, after six goals in the game. Only bettered by the eight goals on show in Croatia v Spain earlier in the day. Was this the best football day ever? Portugal lost their Round of 16 tie with Belgium today, despite perhaps being the better team. And the Czechs surprise & delight, knocking Netherlands out on their way to the quarter finals. Italy were held to extra time in their first knockout game against Austria. A Federico Chiesa goal was needed to break the deadlock 100 minutes into the game. In the earlier game, however, Denmark easily got the better of a rubbish Wales and move on to the quarters. France top the dreaded Group F, followed closely by Germany (who now face England in the Round of 16)! Portugal sneak through in third, and Hungary exit as expected. England enjoy a divisively comfortable victory over Czech Republic on their way to winning Group D. Next stop, runners up from the Group of Death (otherwise known as Group F). Group A concluded in style today, with Italy and Wales retaining first and second positions respectively after a 1-0 Italy victory.
