    The Geelong Football Club has stood down around 100 staff members with the AFL season put on hold until further notice. An emotional Brian Cook says the staff have been given compassionate leave and their owed leave, but after that it will have to be leave without pay if there's no competition. "It's been a tough time, mate, loyal people."The Geelong CEO says their coach, Chris Scott, had sacrificed his pay for the club: "What's become obvious is right through this is, and I think every club's the same, there's a lot of wonderful people out there.     In one year he took the Brisbane Lions from five wins to 16 wins, but the coach says last year's performance won't be good enough for 2020.Chris Fagan turned his team around to finish second on the AFL ladder in 2019 and won the Coach of the Year award, but understands there's a lot to do ahead of this season. "From the day we started working together we've just been on this thing about improvement and that's really all that we can control," Fagan told Brad Hardie and Kim Hagdorn. "We've got to try and be a better team than we were last year because last year what we did, wouldn't be good enough this year.     Suspended West Coast Eagle Willie Rioli was back on the training track with his Eagles teammates yesterday and their coach says Rioli was nervous ahead of his first appearance since his suspension. Adam Simpson says Rioli was brought in to the club last week and spoke with his teammates about his actions. "We did have to move on and address those issues from a player perspective and there's no other way to do it than to get him back at the right time and he spoke with the players last week and they had some conversations they needed to have with Willie," Simpson told 6PR.
