We also talk about the widespread anti-war actions from within Russia, and the level of support for Ukraine, increasingly isolating Putin. Mick Cox says that Putin’s war is about regime change in Ukraine, to make Ukraine more like Russia, which will consolidate Putin's kleptocratic control at home. It isn’t going well: Putin is contending with massive opposition as Russians take to the streets, facing arrest; Ukrainians are fighting back; and he has become an international pariah. Putin’s push for a new security infrastructure in Europe has already forced the US to shift its geopolitical focus back to Europe—and Mick Cox insists China is the true winner in this crisis, as Russia is now more economically and strategically subordinated to the vastly more powerful government in Beijing.
