28 November 2021 - First Sunday of Advent - During this first week of Advent, the beginning of the Church's liturgical year, Rev. Aaron Eime turns our focus towards the return of the Messiah. The coming of the Lord brings both redemption and judgment, a time when everything hidden in darkness will be revealed by the light of God. Jesus and the prophets depict a world in chaos at the end of time, and the Day of Lord can look terrifying for some but be an obsession for others. Jesus admonishes us to not be burdened by fear nor weighted down by the anxieties of the world. Instead, we are encouraged to have a posture of hope and confidence. 7 November 2021 - 24th Sunday After Pentecost - Deacon Neville Jones look at the story of Elijah and the widow of Zarephath in the Old Testament, and, in the New Testament, the story of the widow who put just two small coins into the temple treasury. Jesus uses both these women to teach his disciples some unexpected and important truths about the character of God. Their circumstances were very different, but they both showed that God is faithful like no other. Psalm 146 picks up this theme to show that we too can trust him in any and all situations. 24 October 2021 - 22nd Sunday after Pentecost - Bartimaeus is unique in the the Gospel of Mark. Ironically, although blind, he is one of the few who sees who Jesus claims to be. What can we, as modern disciples, learn from him? His faith is a bold faith, desperate to receive from Jesus. 17 October 2021 - 21st Sunday after Pentecost - Asking questions and seeking answers from God is not disrespectful nor inherently a wrong thing if done with the right intention. God is not unaware of our personal situations, and he knows us intimately. He is present during our dark times, and he hears our cries and questions about suffering and evil. It's from the storm and the chaos of the world that God’s voice can still be heard. When everything seems out of control, the reality is that God is actually in total control. God has shared our weakness in the person of Jesus, who is now elevated to be our eternal high priest. 10 October 2021 - 20th Sunday after Pentecost - The lie of the Devil is that we can have the good life without God. Jesus exposed this lie by his faithful obedience. Rev. David Pileggi tells us that we also expose Satan's lie when we live like Jesus. Jesus called us to give to the poor and needy. When we do, we not only combat the Devil but we proclaim the merciful, generous character of God. We also invest in our eternal future. Jesus called the Rich Young Ruler to radically trust God with his wealth, but he was unwilling. Are we ready to trust God with our money? Moses introduces the first sacrifice for sin; these sins are unintentional or committed in ignorance. This chapter details mandatory atonement for unintentional sins, confession of sins, forgiveness of sins, and cleansing from defilement. The chapter details four types of people who bring a sacrifice for sin: the priest, elders of the community, those in leadership positions, and the common people. We note again that these sins are unintentional and the later prophets of Israel argue against turning this ritual around to mean intentional sins and thus think they can fool the Lord by sinning, sacrificing, and getting away with it. The sin is against any of the commandments of the Lord, no matter the size of sin nor commandment broken. This is very similar to James 2:10 where it says, if you stumble on one point of the Law you break all of it. Led by Aaron Eime. 3 Oct 2021 - 19th Sunday after Pentecost - In the beginning God created couples: Heaven and Earth, Light and Darkness, Male and Female. Each of these couples is in a relationship and it is difficult to understand one without the other. Marriage is also a relationship, but not all relationships are a marriage. We are all in relationships of one sort or another. We are in relationships with each other and with the Living God. All relationships need work and broken ones even more so. God never gives up on a broken relationship; He loves us too much. All things can be redeemed and that includes broken relationships. Blessed by our teachings? 26 Sept 2021 - 18th Sunday after Pentecost - Sukkot - As we celebrate the Feast of Michael and All the Angels, we reconsider the fundamental nature of the spiritual conflict that believers face. The devil is first and foremost a deceiver and has convinced many in our generation that God is nothing more than a pious myth and that the message of Jesus is irrelevant. By holding to the "testimony of Jesus", we expose such lies not only by our words but also through committed discipleship that emphasizes keeping God’s commandments, loving our enemies, and supporting others in the community of faith. Leviticus 2 talks about a bloodless grain offering given as an option for the poor. Only this offering has a portion called "most holy."
