Bridging The Gap

When the Holy Spirit came upon the hundred and twenty disciples, there were many who were amazed. But there were some who thought these spirit-filled people had had a little too much wine to drink! After all, they were being heard by the crowd in several different languages at the same time! The Apostle Peter came to the rescue with a sermon that set the record straight.

Today we continue our study through the book of Acts, with a stop in Acts chapter two. The day of Pentecost has arrived, and with it, the Holy Spirit. Without question this is one of the most significant events in the Bible, as the third member of the Holy Trinity descended upon the early Christian Church. As we will see in today’s message, the work of the Holy Spirit began immediately, and the results were quite startling to those who witnessed them.

Today we’ll bring you part one of pastor Lloyd’s final message in his series through Mark.  Jesus indeed rose from the grave, and the proof was there for anyone to see - anyone that is who sought the truth.  As Lloyd will mention, the proof that Jesus Christ rose from the grave is overwhelming, and anyone who disagrees simply doesn’t know what they’re talking about!

Self preservation is a strong instinct for humans and all other creatures. Why then did Jesus Christ allow himself to be crucified in a horribly painful way, when He could easily have stopped it? Because He loves us so much!

We’re all familiar with the events surrounding the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Today we’ll consider the hearing before Pilate from a slightly different perspective. Who actually was on trial here?

We’ll start in Mark fifteen today, as Jesus is appearing before Pilate after His arrest. The decision facing Pilate is quite similar to the decision every person must make. We know, as Pilate did, that Jesus Christ is who He says He is. Yet, will we choose the easy way out and reject Him? 

Today pastor Lloyd resumes his verse by verse series through the gospel of Mark. We’ve reached a crucial section here in chapter fourteen, verses forty three through seventy two. Jesus has been arrested and now stands before the high priest. What irony we see here - Jesus, the only guiltless person in the room, stands accused of blasphemy.

We’ve spent a considerable amount of time studying the gospel of Mark on the program, and today we reach chapter fourteen, verses forty three through seventy two. In this familiar scene, Jesus is arrested in the Garden of Gethsemene.

Mark is the shortest of the four gospel accounts of Jesus Christ’s earthly life, but it contains some very moving accounts of His ministry. One of those accounts is in chapter fourteen, verses thirty two through forty two, where we see the Lord in the Garden of Gethsemene.

There are so many memorable scenes described in God’s word, and we’ll look at one of them today. It’s a familiar scene to most Christians - Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemene. Jesus went to the cross willingly as a sacrifice for our sins, but His souls was deeply troubled here in the garden - just hours before His painful death.

We’re going to continue along in Mark’s gospel, as we study chapter fourteen, verses twelve through thirty one. Here we see the scene of the last Passover, and the  Lord’s last meal with His disciples.  The last few hours of the earthly life of Jesus are a wonderful picture of a man who knew His destiny, and accepted it willingly - because of His incredible love for us!

We’re going to continue our verse by verse study in Mark’s gospel today as we near the time when the Lord will be arrested and crucified. These verses describe some of the most important moments in human history - indeed they tell what God was willing to go through so you and I could have a chance to live in eternity with Him! 

Today we’ll once again be studying Mark’s gospel, chapter fourteen. As the saying goes, we’re getting down to the nitty gritty, as the plot to arrest and kill Jesus is being hatched. The really wonderful truth to remember as we study these verses, is that Jesus was and is God - and He could have put an end to these events at any time. But He chose to go to the cross willingly, to save us from our sins.
