Does God choose sides? If I pray about it, will He cause my favorite football team to win? In Joshua 5:13-15 as the Israelites prepare to fight their enemies to take over their new land, Joshua is surprised by a man who appears in front of him. Joshua asked whose side he was on. "Neither", said the man, "I'm a commander of the Lord."  He then gives them an unconventional strategy to follow in order to be successful. Sometimes God may have us do the unexpected. It may not make sense but when we encounter those times, we need to ask how do I need to follow him? Maybe we need to sacrifice something. Or maybe there is someone to talk to about my faith. Or something else entirely. We need to be asking, am I on the Lord's side? And how do I need to follow Him today? Whether we want to know who built Stonehenge or why God created mosquitoes, we are curious. "Why, why, why?" we ask. Perhaps we may wonder why God let an awful thing happen to us or a loved one. It IS safe and good to ask God questions.  The apostles asked in Acts 1:4-7 if that was the very time Christ Jesus would restore the Kingdom to Israel. He replied that it was not for them to know the times or dates but wait. Like children they needed to be patient and humble. Jesus encouraged then and now to ask a lot of questions. Joseph had a hard life. In Genesis 37-44 we see that he was sold into slavery when his was young because he was his father's favorite. Then, he was sent to prison because he wouldn't sleep with Potiphar's wife. However, after many years and through God's work, he was able to become the Second in charge of all of Egypt. It made no sense, but God was up to something. Joseph had faith and trusted God. He great perspective on what God was doing in his life.  Today, Brett walks us through the life of Joseph in Genesis that culminates in Genesis 45. He shares about how God not only worked in Joseph's life but he is working in our life as well. What is God doing in your life to prepare you for today? None of us is perfect. We have all sinned and need to seek forgiveness from God, which He freely gives us. In Mark 2:1-12 we see a great example of Jesus forgiving. Did you ever work so hard and then have nothing to show for it? In John 21 Peter and the apostles fished all night but did not catch any fish. In the morning, Jesus showed up and told them to let down their nets on the right side of the boat. When they obeyed Jesus they pulled in a miraculous catch of fish.  In the same way we can be so busy chasing more money,  success, degrees, the best house or vacation and, ultimately, have nothing to show for it.
