लंदन में रह कर सॉफ्टवेयर इंजीनियर प्रशांत शर्मा पानी की कमी के प्रति वहां लोगों की जागरूकता से भली भांति परिचित थे। लेकिन फिर उन्होंने चेन्नई की यात्रा करते समय एक ऐसा नज़ारा देखा जिसकी वजह से वह भारत वापस लौट आये। दक्षिण भारत के इस शहर में लोग पानी के टैंकर पर लाइन लगा के खड़े थे और पानी के कमी के कारण अफरा तफरी मची थी। ये देख वह समझ गए कि यदि अब भी यहाँ लोग नहीं जागे तो बहुत देर हो जाएगी। उन्होंने ग्रे वाटर को संरक्षित करने का ज़िम्मा उठाया, अब तक वो दस लाख लीटर से अधिक पानी बचा चुके हैं। उनका काम धीरे धीरे बहुत से से राज्यों में फ़ैल गया है।
