The United States has asked for clarification from Israel regarding Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent comments that Israel will hold security responsibility for the Gaza Strip for an indefinite period after the war against the Hamas terror group. While backing Israel's right to self-defense against Hamas terror, the United States has also stressed the need to focus on the day after the war. The Biden administration has indicated the Palestinian Authority could play a role as an eventual governing body in Gaza, while Prime Minister Netanyahu, in remarks over the weekend appeared to reject this option, lambasting what he called an entity that educates children to want to eliminate Israel, supports terrorism and has net yet condemned Hamas' October 7 massacres that sparked the war. KAN's Naomi Segal asked Prof. Eytan Gilboa, an expert on US-Israel relations and a senior fellow at the  Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security, if there are signs of strain in the positions between the two countries.

The media watch organization HonestReporting has published a report which it says Palestinian photojournalists in the Gaza Strip worked hand in hand with Hamas, raising ethical questions over their behavior documenting the massacre, entered Israel illegally with the terrorists and questioned if they may have had prior knowledge of the October 7th attack. Four photographers who work for AP, Reuters, CNN and The New York Times filmed the horrors perpetrated by the Hamas terrorists after they broke through border fence with Israel. They filmed the murder of civilians, the abuse of bodies and the abduction of men and women. Eleni Stavrou, a member of the European Parliament representing Cyprus, visited Israel this week as part of a mission of members of various European Parliaments who came to the country and went to the Gaza periphery and met with families of hostages and killed. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made an unannounced visit to the West Bank on Sunday to meet Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. Blinken said that the PA would play a “key role” in the day after the war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Dr. Harel Chorev, an expert on Palestinian affairs and senior researcher at the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Tel Aviv University, said the role of the PA in the Gaza Strip would not come soon since the Palestinian Authority itself needed to undergo fundamental reforms in their education system and funding of terrorists.
