Far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich says plans to build more than 3,000 homes close to Ma'ale Adumim will "bury the idea of a Palestinian state". The so-called E1 project between Jerusalem and the large West Bank settlement city has been frozen for decades amid fierce opposition internationally. Building there would effectively cut off the West Bank from  East Jerusalem and significantly obstruct the possibility of Palestinian territorial contiguity. Smotrich said it would thwart the idea of a Palestinian state "because there is nothing to recognize and no one to recognize". Hezbollah says it will disregard a decision by Lebanon's government to task the army with establishing a state monopoly on arms. "We will treat this decision as if it does not exist," Hezbollah said in a statement, describing it as a "grave sin". The comments come despite mounting international pressure for the group to disarm. A growing number of Israelis, even among right-wing orthodox, are supporting freedom of marriage from the Orthodox monopoly in the state. According to a poll carried out by Hiddush, an organization for Religious Freedom and Equality, some 60 percent of the Jewish population now support recognizing all types of marriages, including civil, Conservative and Reform ceremonies.
