Global finance crime a main theme at the European Anti-Financial Crime Summit

Meta which owns whatsapp and Facebook has been ordered to pay a whopping €1.2 billion for breaching GDPR rules and it could have big ramifications for other technology companies that gather personal data. Sam Saarsteiner, is a Partner in Clark Hill and advises transatlantic and domestic clients on data protection matters and spoke to Joe this morning.

Ryanair publishes positive full-year results for the financial year
22/05/2023 Duración: 07minFresh from the biggest airplane order in European history, Ryanair has just published its full-year results for the financial year which ended in March. They show the Swords-based airline made a pretax profit of €1.5billion after it made a total revenue of €10.7billion. Ryanair said it created 300 new routes and that airfares were up 10% on pre-COVID levels. Eddie Wilson is the chief executive of Ryanair, DAC joined Joe on the show this morning.

Oil will continue to be central to the functioning of the world economy
19/05/2023 Duración: 06minLast July oil prices reached $123 a barrel as Russia tried to use its energy as a financial weapon against Europe. It didn't work. Prices are now around $75 and the Russians are selling at below cost to India and China in a post-sanctions world. But we won't be in a post-carbon world for another few decades yet and so energy will continue to be central to the functioning of the world economy. Its first seed investor was Enterprise Ireland and the final closing investor to make up the fund is the Irish strategic investment fund. One company thinks the future will definitely be hybrid

Many were surprised and disappointed that some company bosses demanded that all their employees be seen back in the office once all restrictions were lifted last year. But others usually in white-collar sectors- saw hybrid working as a way of retaining their highly prized and highly mobile staff. One Irish software company thinks the future will definitely be hybrid and they're hiring more people to cater to that need.
