Winner of the Jury Grand Prize at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, and nominated for a Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, the film is an intimate semi-biographical portrait of Palestinians living as a minority in their own homeland between 1948 and the present day. Inspired by his father’s diaries, letters his mother sent to family members who had fled the Israeli occupation, and the director’s own recollections, the film recounts the saga of the filmmaker’s family in subtly hilarious vignettes. Producer Rick Rosenthal and Associate Director of LBGT Services in the Resource Center for Sexual & Gender Diversity at UCSB Klint Jaramillo explore Transparent, a film that chronicles the lives of a Los Angeles family after they discover that their father, Mort (Jeffrey Tambor), is transgender. An original series produced by Amazon Studios, Transparent won the 2015 Golden Globe for best TV series, musical or comedy, and Tambor took home a trophy for best actor.
