Our world is full of noise - everywhere we turn is another voice, another opinion, another “fact.”  In the midst of this noise can we actually tune in to the God who speaks? Perhaps you’ve heard someone you don’t know particularly well express something like, “God spoke to me about this…” or “God told me I’m supposed to do that…” and you have found yourself immediately trying to position this person’s credibility and level of sanity.  Does God still speak today?  Isn’t the Bible all we need?  We hope you’ll join us as Pastor Jeremy begins our new sermon series called ‘Tuning In: Learning to recognize God’s voice.’

At Easter we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection and His beautiful invitation to us.  Come and hear Pastors Jeremy and Lisa speak on the profound truth that Jesus’ love is a resurrection that invites us to shed our grave clothes of fear and shame, so that we may live in the abundant life He offers us.

Jesus describes his followers as branches on a vine. It’s a picture of apprenticeship with a promise: as we stay connected, we bear fruit. His Kingdom is made up of countless believers from every background and corner of the globe experiencing the reality of this picture, often in ways and places that might surprise us. Jesus' challenge for us is to embrace the vision and find our place in the Big Kingdom.

As part of the body of Christ we understand that each and every one of us is uniquely created, each equipped with different gifts and abilities.  Each part is valuable and needed for the whole of the body to function. It does not matter our age, or how long we have been choosing to put Jesus first in everything, we all have a role to play.  Join us Sunday as we take time to recognize the gifting and role that God has called Pastor Dan to play as we celebrate his ordination.

In the whirlwind of our everyday life and church family activity, we sometimes lose the larger plot of what Jesus is calling us to in our apprenticeship walk with Him, and how He has been at work in our lives personally and corporately. Come and be reminded afresh of the vision we are seeking to walk out as a church family and listen to some of the story of Jesus that has been unfolding at StAAC over the past year.

It's been almost two years since Pastor Matt moved back to Tasmania with his family. This Sunday he is back with us and will be reflecting on what he has learned on the journey of the past few years about living a whole life, and also the dangers for those of us who look for a shortcut.  We regret to advise that we are unable to provide subtitles for those who have difficulty with the Australian language.

God, in His infinite wisdom, has designed things for us so that we would experience a flourishing life here in all of our relationships. But it doesn’t end there. Hidden within God’s beautiful design for marriage and sexuality is a divine mystery that points to something even more special and significant.

Sex is often one of those taboo topics, the ones that make us a little uncomfortable to talk about in public. Yet there are many questions about sex that we would like to know the answers to.  If we are honest, most of our understanding about sex has been shaped by the culture around us, the shows we watch or the music we listen to.  In a culture that proclaims the ideal of sexual freedom, why does it seem to be a leading cause of hurt and shame?  Join us Sunday as we take some time to talk about sex as part of God’s Beautiful Design.

In the context of a church family that at times (appears to) elevate marriage as the ideal, we can miss the blessing and purpose behind singleness. God’s “Beautiful Design” for humanity encompasses the unique journey of a single person, and both the blessings and opportunities for spiritual formation that accompany it. Jesus, of course, modelled how, as a single person, it is possible to live a flourishing Kingdom life within the context of a loving community. Both marriage and singleness have something important to reveal to us about our relationship with Jesus, and we know your heart will be strengthened as you listen to Norah Kennedy share from her own experience of Jesus and His Word within the context of her life story.

Perhaps no other passage in Scripture regarding marriage has been more consistently misunderstood and misapplied than what the Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 5 regarding authority, headship and submission between husbands and wives. As apprentices of Jesus, we look again to Him to understand what our unique ‘Jesus-roles’ are in marriage and beyond to all other relationships. Listen in as Pastors Jeremy & Lisa seek to encourage us to follow the example of Jesus and to embody mutual honour in relationship.

The foundation for a strong marriage is friendship. Often this gets overlooked as the world puts a disproportionate emphasis on physical attraction. While physical intimacy is a unique gift in marriage, we cannot overlook the truth that friendship is the foundation from which we experience deep fulfillment of every kind in marriage. "Say Yes to the Dress."  "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."  You hear those titles and images of wedding excitement and celebration come to mind. We love the celebration of a couple being joined together as husband and wife in front of family and friends. Although there is lots of work that goes into a wedding it really is only the beginning.  What happens when the party is done, the decorations are put away and Monday morning comes?  In an age where we often hear the comment “Why would I get married - it is just a piece of paper?”  what makes marriages worth more than the paper we sign?  Join us as we continue our series “Beautiful Design,” looking at what comes after the “I Do” and why it is so important.

We all long for and crave deep and meaningful relationships.  It has always been God’s beautiful design that human relationships – of which marriage is the most intimate and most profound – would be a major vehicle through which God would remake the human heart from the inside out.  We often look to marriage as a means to our own personal happiness and fulfillment but God's design has always been that the way to happiness and fulfillment would be through self-denial and self-sacrificing love for the other (in the marriage relationship or in any other).  Come and join us as Pastor Jeremy kicks off our sermon series, Beautiful Design.
