  • Flushing is Burning: This Week in Footy

    16/11/2023 Duración: 46min

It's been a little week for baseball news but the extra two days Grace took to record this episode gave her a little more to work with. The manager merry-go-round ended with Mendoza leading the Mets, and even more shocking results elsewhere. Mendoza seems fine now but no one can know until the Mets take the field in 2024.And some reports are starting to create multiple pictures of what that Mets team might look like, for better or worse. Then, with nothing much else to talk about, Grace gets into a topic she is very passionate about: the NWSL championship game played this weekend. Gotham has won their first trophy, and the first championship for the city (and its surrounding area) in over a decade. Grace gets into the nitty-gritty of the game and all the juicy, drama-filled storylines running throughout it. Let's go Bats! Finally, Grace pitches an idea for a segment next week, and it requires you, dear listener, to be a passive (or active if you want) part of it. So go find your closest streaming/physical med

Next, we talk about Metropolitan Park—Steve Cohen’s vision for the future of the area around Citi Field—and why we think it’s a positive for the Mets and the community.  Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Home Run Applesauce podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. • From Complex To Queens, Episode 250: Middle Infielders of the Year

    13/11/2023 Duración: 53min

Welcome to From Complex to Queens, Home Run Applesauce’s podcast focusing on the Mets’ minor league system. Happy birthday Asdrubal Cabrera’s! In his two-and-a-half years with the Mets, Cabrera’s home run against the Phillies on September 22, 2016 became his marquee home run moment, so the guys discuss other marquee home run moments in Promote, Extend, Trade. After, they discuss the 2023 Arizona Fall League season now that it has concluded. Following that, Steve, Lukas, Ken and Thomas discuss their Mets Minor League Middle Infielders of the Year. • Flushing is Burning, Episode 28: No More Predictions

    09/11/2023 Duración: 46min

The Rangers have won the World Series, and the 2023 MLB season is officially a wrap! Grace discusses the end of the World Series, and her inability to predict anything. The fan reaction in Texas is tremendous, and who knows when there will be another first time winner. Grace also touches on the ridiculousness of complaining about television ratings as fans. Then, Grace goes into the Mets offseason, with the manager spot being the most pressing concern. This episode was recorded prior to the Counsell/Mendoza news breaking, so she clearly has no idea what’s coming. She touches on some minor moves the team has made thus far, and what they could be looking at in free agency, both for open spots and to improve in other places. Finally, Grace begins concretely thinking about what the offseason will look like for the podcast, and the balance between baseball coverage, queer news, and movie stuff will look like in the drier months. Finally, another Noirvember movie minute, with an impromptu double feature recommendat

  • Flushing is Burning: Can Everyone Please Just Act Normal?

    03/11/2023 Duración: 47min

Grace leads off the episode talking about the first two games of the World Series. There's great stories, great performances, and a terrible joke from Justin Verlander's brother. Where it goes from here, who knows? Then a switch to some general sports news. First, the Pride Tape ban has been repealed! Thanks to the courage of Travis Dermott, and the ineptitude of the NHL, the ban lasted not even a single game and now players can do as they please (with regards to their stick tape) yet again. Then, in a more downer note, Dwight Howard has been accused of sexual assault, but because it's a man accusing him people have lost their collective minds. There's thoughts on the nature of rape jokes and culture when it comes to the straight perspective on gay issues, and also the bonkers take from Deadspin that these assault allegations are ruining a big moment for LGBTQ athletes. Finally, a multi-minute, multi-movie movie minute! First, Grace talks about the joy of seeing Academy Award nominee and hot upcoming star Pau

  • Flushing is Burning: Ramble On

    26/10/2023 Duración: 51min

It's another boring playoff week, but a bit of Mets news gives Grace something to talk about. There's a bit of manager news, some awards and nominations, and a former Met retirement. Plus a lot of Grace struggling to remember past World Series winners for some frat radio content. Then, Grace takes a look at the two playoff series running at the time of recording. The ALCS with its drama between Adolis García and Bryan Abreu, and Grace takes a stand on FIB's rooting interests in the series. And the NLCS with a fun back and forth between the Phillies and Diamondbacks. Grace then takes a stand on the Phillies' song choice for their playoff run. Finally, Grace looks ahead at what the show can do post-playoffs, with a long winter ahead. And since Grace is bad at math and reading calculators, you get two movie minutes for the price of one to celebrate the end of October.
