S5 Bonus Episode: The Very Troubled Child

    25/05/2020 Duración: 17min

The show is back and ready for a Lantern Cinema crossover. Recently on the Lantern Cinema Podcast I talked about my love for Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom." One topic that I didn't get to discuss in detail was its depiction of depression and mental health and how characters treat it. Here is that discussion. New year, new laptop, and yet another attempt to make this a more regular thing. Fingers crossed that a couple long talked about potential guests end up being cool with Zoom calls. xoxo Logo by Jennifer Leatherby. Music by H.D. 23/11/2019 Duración: 02h01s

I had been looking forward to this conversation for a very long time. Dustin Harmsen welcomed me into his home and returned to the show, primarily to talk about two things. Being gender queer, not drinking alcohol (and how both of those things affect how we socialize). We cover the graphic novel memoir, "Gender Queer" by Maia Kobabe at length. I will continue to be a champion of that work in as many ways as I can think up; it meant that much to me. Dustin and I also dissect how I talk about my newfound pronouns - or don't - and why. He unveils why he has never purposefully had a sip of alcohol ever and how people tend to react upon hearing that. We definitely have pronoun slip ups but that's kind of the point. Actively working to be better. Not just trying. Music, parenting, fear, politics, and so much more. Back behind the mic but just for a minute. I recorded this in my car (fun!) and you can tell :P Happy World Mental Health Day. Treat yo'self to some healthy coping mechanisms and an attempt at good sleeping habits (and drink more water than I do)! I've started a third gig, adopted an insane kitten, spent too much time reflecting and too little time creating. Bringing Dustin Harmsen back on the show and and *planning*on releasing that episode by Halloween. It's not Homework buuuut Extra Credit for the next episode is to read "Gender Queer" by Maia Kobabe. New name, new logo, new theme song, same show. Finally back behind the mic and joined by the positively powerful Eva Lewin (aka Pizza Babe). We chatted about her start in music, inspiration, fear, loss, Spring, and time spent crying. Also *warning* from roughly the 48-60 minute mark we discussed our personal experiences with self-harm. Feel free to skip that section if needed. If anyone where to ever give an episode of this show a chance, then I hope it would be this one. It's good to be back. Logo by Jennifer Leatherby. S3 E3: Spaghetti Warehouse, Featuring Rob Stephens

    15/05/2018 Duración: 01h38s

Back to having guests! This time I was joined by Des Moines artist/performer/musician/teacher/monk-in-training Rob Stephens. We covered what it's like to make music when you don't know what you're doing, being jealous of locals, the pros and cons of quiet time, Dolly Parton breakups songs, and plenty of other tangents. While we've known each other for awhile, we had never really spoken to one another for more than a couple of minutes at a time until we sat down in this booth. By the end I think we learned a lot about each other and ended up with one of my favorite episodes of this show. S3 E2: Alone In My Head/A Failed Experiment

    20/04/2018 Duración: 15min

It's difficult to call this a proper episode - it's something different. Meant to be reminiscent of what goes through my head when I feel like I'm in the gutter. There's also part of a song on loop throughout most of the episode meant to 1. represent having random bits of songs stuck in my head and 2. provide something consistent in an otherwise inconsistent experience. Wanted to get a bit louder and out there * insert internal screaming Here, insert internal screaming Here * but living in an apartment with paper thin wall has its limitations. I know this isn't as easy of a listen as some episodes, but I hope you give it an honest chance and that something clicks. Thank you for being you. Remember, "Life is happy, baby." 03/04/2018 Duración: 37min

We're back! To quote a White Stripes song, "I must be fine cuz my heart's still beatin'." There's some truth to that, too! So much to catch up on yet so little has changed. On this episode on talk through my current state of being and have a whole lot to say about Bojack Horseman in general and regarding it's depictions of mental health. This is a weirder one, harkening back to my first time in front of this mic. It was tough. It was tough but it'll get better again. Thank you. Remember, "Life is happy, baby." 10/09/2017 Duración: 01h16min

The podcast is back and so is Paige E. King (and my own name being in the title). More than a year after her first guest appearance, we reconvened (this time in person) over a bottle of red wine and a table that isn't actually made of wood. We talked about cooking as art therapy, how to make a home a Home, gave the tiniest Royal Tenenbaums spoiler I could possibly think of, and introduced a new segment. Thank you for listening. In the episode that simply refused to end, we also debate whether or not I am hipster and/or emo, complain about our student debt (justifiably slow)and reveal job changes. Music by Gloom Balloon.
