Jesus' teaching on how to treat our enemies and those who insult us is challenging, both on the surface and as we dig down into it. Reuben takes some time to walk us through it as we continue to try and become closer followers of Jesus.

As we near Easter, John takes us through Jesus going to Jerusalem in the run up to his death and what that meant for him. He then considers what it means for us as Christ-followers to "go to Jerusalem" as we devote our lives to him.

In our continuing journey to become closer followers of Christ, we are taking a look at the next section of the sermon on the mount, from Matthew's gospel. With a mixture of levity and seriousness, Carol encourages and challenges us in these areas of purity that Jesus highlighted to his followers.

At this point in the 'Sermon on the Mount' Jesus is teaching his listeners about anger and how to follow God's ways of living in this area of life. As Christ-followers ourselves, we take a look at how to follow him through this teaching.

Following the beatitudes at the beginning of the 'Sermon on the Mount' in Matthew's gospel, there is a short passage around Jesus' role in fulfilling the law and the prophets. This week, Reuben shares from this section in verses 17-20 of chapter five. (Apologies for the distortion in the recording.)

This talk is something a bit different to normal as part of our time in Matthew's gospel. Rather than a Sunday morning preach, in this shorter audio, Jenny shares some thoughts on the few verses in chapter 5 (v13-16) in which Jesus talks about us being salt and light. Our journey through Matthew's gospel has reached the Sermon on the Mount and today, John takes us through the first several verses of Jesus' teachings in the sermon: the beatitudes. "Blessed are the ... for they...".

The introductory period of Matthew's gospel is coming to an end. Jesus' ministry is about to kick into high gear. In chapter four we see Jesus following the Spirit and responding to temptation in the wilderness before he returns to Galilee, moves from Nazareth to Capernaum an begins to teach, heal and lead the people to repentance.

Today Carol shares with us from chapter three of Matthew, focusing on John the Baptist and the baptism of Jesus. On the day, various people helped Carol read the passage but the live readings didn't record well. New recordings of those sections have been added in, but it means they are all in one voice.

We are seeking to be Christ-followers, so in 2024 we are working through Jesus' life and ministry in the book of Matthew as we pray that we'll become more like Jesus as we focus on what he did and said on earth. This Sunday, Derek considers the birth of Jesus in chapters 1 and 2.

Andy & Emma Barclay-Watt visited us from LifeChurch Manchester today and we had the privilege of hearing from Andy. As a prelude to our upcoming time in Matthew's gospel, Andy speaks through the story of the feeding of the five thousand to encourage us all in the part that we have to play in serving. Our part is to "do what we can do, and God will do what only he can do." In our second instalment on pastoral care, and the last Sunday looking specifically at loving God and loving neighbour, Paul & Brenda share thoughts, experiences, encouragements, and scripture around caring for one another. "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:35

Jenny takes some time to consider how we care for one another as part of our love of God and neighbour. Among other areas she takes a look at the idea of bearing each other's burdens in Galatians 6 and the help Moses received to hold up his staff in Exodus 17.

As we start to ramp up for the Christmas season (with carol and Christmas services coming up) we go on a bit of the journey of the shepherds in the Christmas story, while still thinking of loving God and loving neighbour.

Following a couple weeks' break, we return our focus to loving God and loving neighbour. Carol this week is looking at loving through life's difficulties: sharing from her own experience, plus input from another of the CPC family, and Psalm 46v1.

Today we had the privilege of worshipping with several people from a group of churches in the Midlands that are related to the Maximise group, of which CPC is a part. Simon was one of our visitors and spoke about how God has been guiding he and his family to look out for what he is already doing in their neighbourhood and join in!

We regularly have joint services with Mosaic church in Bangor. Sometimes at theirs, sometimes at ours. This Sunday we welcomed the Mosaic family to CPC and together heard from Andy Barclay-Watt from LifeChurch in Manchester. All three churches represented on the day are part of the Maximise network of churches and we believe we are indeed, stronger together.

Being a good steward is the focus our loving God and neighbour preach today. David focuses on the parable of the talents as well a passage from 1 Peter 4 as we get into "how" we can love and serve our neighbour.

This Sunday we got to hear from Derek helping us to think about how loving God and loving neighbour applies to the people who don't yet know God and salvation through Jesus. "Circles not rows." Have a listen...

This Sunday we had the privilege of hearing from John and Evan. In this recording, John focuses on loving our neighbour, and in particular those who are harder to love. He takes a through a number of Jesus' interactions with people thought of at the time as 'unloveable'. Evan followed up John with his testimony.
