Sinopsis

I pastor Legana Christian Church in Tasmania, Australia. I do a weekly morning radio program called Life Matters where we deal with some of the difficult issues we all face in life, and discuss how might tackle them. I also produce another radio program called Finding Truth Matters where I take the ancient truth of God's Word, explain it, and show how it is relevant for today. I spend a fair bit time helping couples prepare for their marriages and have been doing so now for nearly 30 years. Lately, I've been producing some 1 minute audios for radio stations where I try to take a complex problem or idea and simplify it and offer a different perspective for people to consider. I blog. I write eBooks on some of these topics as well.

  • The Matthew Project, Part 11 - The Transfiguration of Christ

    28/09/2026 Duración: 28min

In this episode through the major themes of the Gospel of Matthew, we now arrive at what many scholars believe is the penultimate message of the Gospel of Matthew. In the transfiguration of Christ, which each synoptic Gospel places in its climax, just before the account of Christ going to the Cross, we are given a glimpse of the eternal glory of Christ as He takes Peter, James and John up Mount Hermon where Moses and Elijah appear to Him to encourage Him on His mission to the Cross. It is the clearest vision of the eternal glory of Christ that any of the New Testament's non-apocalyptic books give us. Be sure to also visit my YouTube channel as I do regular short videos through Matthew as well and where you will shortly find my extended teaching on why the transfiguration so powerfully captured the beatific vision of so many of the early Church Fathers. • The Matthew Project, Part 10 - The Greatness of John the Baptist

    20/09/2026 Duración: 28min

Why is it that John Baptist receives so much attention in each of the Gospels? Could it be that his parents, Zechariah and Elizabeth were “advanced in years” and that it was Gabriel who declared to Zechariah that despite their age and barrenness that Elizabeth would conceive and bear a son to be named John? Could it be that the same Archangel told Mary that even though she was an unmarried virgin, she would miraculously conceive and bear a child who wold be the Saviour of the world — and she could confirm this word by visiting her aged relative Elizabeth and see for herself that she was six months pregnant by Zechariah? Could it be that when Mary did go and see and Elizabeth that the baby in her womb (John the Baptist) leaped for joy at the arrival of the Christ in the womb of Mary? Could it be that at least two Old Testament prophets, Isaiah and Malachi, prophesied about John the Baptist as Yahweh’s messenger who would be sent to prepare the way for the appearance of the Messiah? Or, could it be that Je

  • The Matthew Project, Part 9 - Spirit Empowered Loyalty to Christ

    14/09/2026 Duración: 28min

The Gospel of Matthew was written by an eye-witness of Jesus the Christ - what He did, what He taught, the miracles He performed, the lives He transformed, and how people responded to Him. It was originally written to Jews who were eagerly looking forward to the arrival of their promised anointed Messiah. After being with Jesus for nearly three years in which the 12 disciples heard what Jesus preached and saw the miracles He performed, Christ commissioned His disciples to go out in pairs and do likewise. But He also warned them that ultimately the day would come when they would be persecuted for no other reason than they were His disciples. Christ's warnings about the inevitability of persecution teaches us several truths: (1) Persecution is spiritually motivated by evil forces. (2) It's not about you, it's about the devilish enemy's hatred of Christ and therefore His servants. (3) Persecution is not logical, fair, or rational. (4) What Christ expects of His disciples when they are being persecuted is courag

But Jesus gives His original disciples reasons to not fear those who oppose them. We can also be confident that ultimately, we too have no reason to fear our opponents either. • The Matthew Project, Part 6 - Christ's Commissioning of His 12 Disciples

    21/08/2026 Duración: 28min

The Gospel of Matthew was written by an eye-witness of Jesus the Christ - what He did, what He taught, the miracles He performed, the lives He transformed, and how people responded to Him. It was originally written to Jews who were eagerly looking forward to the arrival of their promised anointed Messiah. In Matthew 10, Christ commissions His disciples to minister with His authority to cast out demons, heal the sick and proclaim that the Kingdom of Heaven was at hand. The selection of His 12 disciples corresponds to the Old Covenant's selection of 12 tribes of Israel and it marks Christ announcing that He was constituting a "new Israel" that was not based on ancestry - but on a connection with Him. Of the 12 disciples that are named, only 3 will feature into the Book of Acts. This highlights that Christ was not calling His disciples to fame, but to faithfulness. • The Matthew Project, Part 5 - Christ's Elevation of Women as a Major Theme of this Gospel

    17/08/2026 Duración: 28min

The Gospel of Matthew is the first Book in the New Testament. It builds on the Old Testament which finishes in the Christian bible with Malachi's prophecy about the hope of the physical coming of the Lord into His Temple. Malachi also prophesied that one would precede the coming of the LORD who also come in the spirit of Elijah. Jesus tells His disciples that this was John the Baptist. In this episode we explore how Jesus elevated the status of women, and used very strong language to rebuke men for how they had been treating those women whom God had charged them to care for. Malachi also prophesied that one would precede the coming of the LORD who also come in the spirit of Elijah. Jesus tells His disciples that this was John the Baptist. 27/07/2026 Duración: 28min

The Gospel of Matthew is often the first thing that people read when they begin to read the Bible. It was written by an eye-witness of Jesus the Christ - what He did, what He taught, the miracles He performed, the lives He transformed, and how people responded to Him. It was originally written to Jews who were eagerly looking forward to the arrival of their promised anointed Messiah. • Gentlemen Please - Part 5 - The Apostolic Instructions to all Men

    15/06/2026 Duración: 28min

In this concluding chapter I am proceeding to discuss the final biblical instructions to men to be men. GOD has created and designed men to be strong, appropriately aggressive, protective, socially organised, romantic, godly, spiritual, courageous, and to problem-solve. Lately, these very traits have been categorised as “toxic masculinity.” I am arguing that these are the traits of positive-masculinity. But they only warrant being positive if they are harnessed according to the wisdom of God’s Word. I have shown in our previous chapter that Christ was the preeminent example of such positive-masculinity. I now outline how the apostolic teaching of the earliest Church articulated how these traits were to be developed and celebrated by men. In my conclusion to this short book, I will appeal to all men to heed the example set by those I have referred to in the Old Testament, the preeminent example of Christ, and this apostolic teaching. I do this in the light of the current global crisis we must confront. For mo

  • Gentlemen Please - Part 4 - Christ, The Preeminent Man

    10/06/2026 Duración: 28min

For those who know the true identity and deity of the Christ, it may seem a little unfair to describe Him as the preeminent man. As Charles Wesley wrote, to look at Christ was view the Godhead veiled in flesh: "Christ, the everlasting Lord, late in time behold him come, offspring of the Virgin's womb: veiled in flesh the Godhead see; hail th'incarnate Deity, pleased with us in flesh to dwell" But as we shall see, when Christ became incarnate, he really was a one-hundred-percent human man, who was tempted in every way a man could be tempted. In 451, the Ecumenical Church Council in Chalcedon considered Christ's incarnation. They affirmed the biblical revelation of Christ being incarnation (made of flesh) as 100% God and 100% human. The incarnation of Christ resulted in Him have a soul that was both eternally divine and forever human. • Gentlemen Please - Part 3 - Old Testament Examples of a Good Man

    03/06/2026 Duración: 28min

I am going to offer a brief list of some of the good men mentioned in the Old Testament. Three of these men receive a lot more attention than the first three men I will discuss. Four of these men were fathers, and I will point out that the implication of the biblical data is that they fathered their children after they had fathered them. Each of these six men were manly. They demonstrated diligence to serve as providers and protectors. They showed genuine car and concern for others. They were examples of authentic spirituality—and did so in an environment that was often difficult. The order of this list is as they occur in the Bible. Please like and subscribe to this channel. • Gentlemen Please! Part 2 - How Grow Into a Strong Man

    26/05/2026 Duración: 28min

The Developmental Roles of a Man In Part 1, I have laid the foundation that when God created the first man, it was a vital aspect of this creation that He created the first woman to be his ally and wife. While the man was created with a greater physical strength than the woman, I have pointed out that the reason for this was that he might resemble God’s protective strength for her, and use his physicality to be productive. The woman was not created as a lesser, but as a correspondent to the man. Importantly I also pointed out that when the woman was created she was named ’Isha. While A’dam had been inspecting and naming each of the animals in the region of Eden as an act of vice-regent authority, it is not until after the Fall that Adam then re-names ’Isha as Eve (Gen. 3:20). In this chapter I discuss the God-ordained changing role of a man. I will also note that these changes demand something of a man that the Fall has made difficult for men to do (and I should know): to receive correction with humility. We

  • Gentlemen Please! Part 1 - Created to be Manish

    21/05/2026 Duración: 28min

Created to be Manish It might not be an exaggeration to say that many western societies are experiencing a crisis of manhood. Two and half millenniums ago Socrates was asked, “What is a virtuous (good) man?” Plato recorded Socrates long answer in The Republic in which Socrates defined what a virtuous man was, and how a society could organised and governed to ensure it could be achieved. The essence of the Socratic answer included: A society can help to produce a virtuous man by: * having him born to good parents. * educating him in manners, literature, rhetoric, logic, mathematics, ethics, religion and art. * ensuring that he is governed by virtuous leaders of impeccable character. * training him so that he is physically strong and able to provide for his wife and children. How might we answer the same question today? What is a good man today? Socrates answered this question by asking his various enquirers questions evoking them to think about the answer as they were walking to an event in the dis

  • Hebrews, Its Message, Part 12 - WHY HEBREWS AND REVELATION SHARE THE SAME THEMES

    11/05/2026 Duración: 28min

The Message to the Hebrews and the Book of Revelation share 4 similar overarching themes. Every young preacher should have a listen to this to discover how their preaching can bring healing and strength to the congregation members. This gospel had been contested by some promoting a false gospel. Paul counters these errors with a reminder that the gospel they received also came with apostolic authority. This apostolic authority is now resident in the New Testament documents. The New Testament now forms the basis for Christians being able to disc

  • Hebrews, Its Message, Part 11 - In Conclusion: A Word of Exhortation

    04/05/2026 Duración: 28min

The writer to the Hebrews was, as Martin Luther suggested, probably Apollos. He was a man skilled in his knowledge of the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings (Psalms and wisdom literature) who was also trained in rhetoric (the art of persuasive communication) and wrote to the beleagured Jewish Christians in Rome about the need to endure and remain faithful. He demonstrated through this message that Jesus was the prophesied Messiah, the "anointed one" ('the Christ'), and that Christ was the fulfilment of the tabernacle/temple, the priesthood, the sacrifices and the ceremonies and rituals prescribed in the Old Testament. His sermonic letter to this first century Christian Hebrew community is a model of how to structure a persuasive sermon. This is why his conclusion is worthy of our admiration and deper consideration. A sermon is not merely the impartation of information or even a hyped-up moment of inspiration. A sermon should make a compelling case and lead to an achievable call-to-action. This is precisely h

  • Hebrews, Its Message, Part 10 - The Heroes of Faith

    27/04/2026 Duración: 29min

As the writer to the Hebrew Christian community of Rome draws his sermon to a conclusion, he employs the rhetorical device of using exemplary heroes to urge his fellow congregation members to endure and remain faithful to Christ. In his absence, his fellow congregants were under a barrage of attack from Judaizers to deconvert back into Judaism. He has already shown throughout this sermon that Judaism was always meant to be superseded by a new covenant, which Christ has now delivered. He has also shown his audience that Christ is superior to angels, Moses, the priesthood - including the High Priest, and even the Tabernacle/Temple. Added to this, he has shown his audience that Mosaic Law with its ceremonies, rituals, and sacrifices all pointed to Christ. These things were mere shadows of Christ, who was the cause of these shadows. As he brings his sermon to its culmination he now reminds his fellow Jewish believers that the heroes of their Old Covenant were all commended by their faithful endurance. His list na

  • Hebrews, Its Message, Part 9 - The Impassioned Plea of a Preacher

    20/04/2026 Duración: 28min

The Bible is made up of the Old Testament, which deals with God's Covenant with Israel, and then the New Testament which deals with Christ has established a New Covenant making a way for all people to find peace with God and the forgiveness of their sins once and for all. The writer to the Hebrews is writing the New Testament to a church of Jewish Christians who are experiencing great discouragement. He writes his sermon to them as a letter and in chapter 10 of its 13 chapters he warns them against taking a shameful path that leads ultimately to shame and eternal disappointment - and instead to seek the true path that is found in the Lord Jesus Christ and leads to great honour both in this life, but especially in the life to come. There is a very practical application for believers today to receive from this sermon and I hope that you will like my presentation of it and leave a positive review in your podcast app and that you will share this podcast with many people to encourage them as well.
