The Untouchables is the 1987 Brian De Palma’s Prohibition-era gangster film, loosely based on the activities of Al Capone and ‘The Untouchables’ - an enforcement group led by Eliot Ness who helped bring down Capone. It stars Robert De Niro as Al Capone, Kevin Costner as Eliot Ness, Andy García as George Stone, Charles Martin Smith as Oscar Wallace and Sean Connery (in an Oscar-winning role) as Jim Malone. Pretty violent for its day - it opens with a child being blown up and there is the notorious baseball bat scene it also plays fast and loose with the real historical moments from the 1930s. But this is De Palma and The Untouchables makes up for historical inaccuracy with spectacular set pieces, for example, Battleship Potemkin homage of the Odessa Steps sequence.
