Sinopsis

Jess and Vic talk about the topic of moulage - a French word meaning "to mould", but more commonly known as the use of special effects makeup techniques to replicate illness and effects. Jess talks about her PhD journey and her (shock horror!) moulage scepticism that drove her to studying the topic. We discuss some of the theories that relate to moulage use, new research and where the future of moulage might be heading (Jess might have mentioned her obsessive watching of google scholar for moulage papers...).   Links and resources   Shiner et al 2019 Radiography and moulage https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1078817418302153   Bauer et al 2021 T attoos and moulage https://bmcmededuc.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12909-021-02763-z   Stokes-Parish 2020 Engagement and moulage in med students https://advancesinsimulation.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s41077-020-00142-0   Stokes-Parish et al 2019 Authenticity in moulage https://advancesinsimulation.biomedcentral.com/articl
