Sinopsis

Ep. 120: Patrick Bennett is a Black, St. Croix native who moved to the mainland United States.  He is married to a White, German woman and has two Biracial sons.  His is truly a multiracial, multicultural experience. Patrick is also the co-founder of Uncommon Caribbean, (https://www.uncommoncaribbean.com/), a celebration of the undiscovered charms of the Antilles! From the unexpected (surfing a la Martinique?) to the downright bizarre (St. Croix’s beer-drinking pigs), Uncommon Caribbean offers an engaging journey beyond the region’s well-trod sun, sand and sea attractions to reveal a unique side of the Caribbean seldom featured in traditional travel guides. Listen as Patrick speaks with Alex about his childhood in St. Croix, his adjustment to the mainland U.S. while attending college in Amish Country, his search for identity in a more polarized racial environment, his own multiracial family, and the ways in which Uncommon Caribbean, by introducing people to authentic Caribbean culture, helps to build bridges
