In the conflict between Native Americans and white settlers in the USA, hunger played an important role. Dr. Brett Riggs is an archaeologist and an expert on the Cherokee. Here, he talks about the Cherokee resistance to their forced removal and the factors leading to hunger and mortality during the Trail of Tears.
