Catholic Heritage Show W/ Dr. Estrada

Recent English-speaking critics of Pope Francis have resorted to Gnostic ways of interpreting the pontiff’s statements. In this episode, we talk about the use of major motifs or themes these critics deploy in reading Francis’ statements, both written and oral. We show that this way of interpreting has close affinities to Gnostic interpretations of the New Testament. In contrast to the ways the Church Fathers interpreted the Scriptures, the Gnostics focused on a handful of key notions as a means to interpreting the sacred text.
