The Relationship between the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Era - CHS 117

Sinopsis

What is the relationship between the Middle Ages (ca. 600-1500) and the Early Modern Era (ca. 1500-1700)? In this episode, we review this relationship between these two important eras of history for the Catholic Church. We note the general observation made by medievalists and early modern historians such as Heiko Obermann, David Steinmetz and others who have argued that a knowledge of the Late Middle Ages (i.e., 1300-1500) is indispensable for a clear comprehension of the Early Modern Era. In most histories of the sixteenth century, scholars now devote an introductory chapter or two to the Late Middle Ages as the backdrop for understanding the religious events of that period. Join us this week, as we discuss the importance of understanding the medieval context for the Reformations of the sixteenth century.   To comment on this show or provide feedback, please navigate to https://catholicheritageshow.com/episode117 The Catholic Heritage is devoted to helping Catholic Christians better understand the history, t
