sermon from 11.15.15. Ekklesia comes from two root words, ek ('out of') and kaleo ('to call'). It literally means, "The ones called out." Jesus adapts a civil term for us in His vision for humanity. We are to be called out from the violence, segregation, and evil of this world into the love, compassion, and grace.
