Youtube is one of the greatest things ever invented.  The key to making money on YouTube is not with ads, that is by far the hardest way. A much easier way is to get someone off of YouTube as quickly as possible and onto your list.  You will notice that in the description there is a link. On all my videos I talk about that link at the end of my dog and pony show that put together.  The purpose of this link is to build my list. Your list is everything with affiliate marketing. When I mean a list is email addresses and names of people interested in your niche.  Then through email marketing you can promote various products and you can make lots of money doing it.  What you don't want to do is create a video then put an affiliate link directly in the description.
