The Philadelphia 76ers were able to hold off the Washington Wizards for a 109-103 victory Wednesday night. The Sixers led by as much as 16 points before the Wizards started to get back into the ball game. A key run for Washington happened in the 1st 6 minutes of the fourth quarter when they opened things up with a 19-8 run to cut the Sixers’ lead to 96-93. Washington would eventually take a late lead after a Kyle Kuzma layup with about 90 seconds remaining. But that would be the last bucket the Wizards would get. Tyrese Maxey would answer the call with 5 points in the final 1:10 of regulation, while Guerschon Yabusele came up with a clutch block. Maxey shook off a rough shooting first half that saw him hit just 3-of-his-13 attempts and just one three in 10 attempts, to score 21 of his game high 29 points. The sixers’ all-star guard was the only one of Philly’s “big three” playing tonight as Joel Embiid is dealing with a foot injury and Paul George a groin strain.
