The suspect in the fatal stabbing of a UCSF social worker at San Francisco General Hospital is being charged with murder. The program to hire formerly incarcerated firefighters to add strength to California's firefighting force is getting a boost. As a teacher strike continues in the West Contra Costa Unified School District, another East Bay school system is facing cuts to staff and programs. Ahead of the Super Bowl and FIFA World Cup matches to be played next year here in the Bay Area, local leaders and law enforcement are preparing to stop human traffickers from operating around those major sporting events. As many Bay Area schools contend with declining enrollment, there is some good news for higher education in California. San Jose School officials say they are working with several local Jewish organizations to quell any fear caused by the incident.
