Today is the feast of St. John Damascene, a priest, monk and Doctor of the Church who lived in the 8th Century. He was born in Damascus in Syria and like so many Christians in that part of the world today he was forced to leave because some of the Muslim majority had grown hostile toward Christians. Fr.
